Searsly Spuhghetti

By Eddie Spuhghetti

Most of y'all would say I'm a Horror Nerd; I plead guilty as charged. From the kindergarten beginnings with Universal Monsters and eventually coming to terms with my fear of anything gory, the Horror genre has been a standard in my life by infusing itself within the pop culture surrounding me. Every kid knew who the current big-screen boogeymen were, even if they hadn't seen a single frame of film: it was common knowledge on the playground that Jason stalked campgrounds in search of pervy teenagers and Michael only came out on Halloween. The one that always interested me was the monster named Freddy who resembled a burnt Indiana Jones in a rugby sweater with a weird knife-glove. Trips to Woolco with my mother always included a stop at the VHS racks and every time I'd wonder what horrors lurked within a certain tape with Freddy's mug on the box. Since 1991, that box art had such a profound impact on me that I got the dang thing tattooed on my arm (that's another story all-together) but it wouldn't be until the early 2000s that I'd finally get to watch A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge. I wasn't horrified nor was I scared but I do wish someone woulda prepared me for what hid amidst the gore, screams and bad dreams: a "cleaning up the room" montage/dance sequence.

Freddy's Revenge serves as a semi-sequel to the original as it technically takes place after the events of the first film and makes reference to them but does not contain any old faces other than Freddy himself. It's unique because we don't see many bizarre dream sequences or Freddy's torment spanning over several teens; he instead focuses on one teenaged-boy named Jesse to perform his killings in the real world. Newly moved into the protagonist's home from the first film, Jesse and his family are having a tough time with their humble abode: the place feels like an oven and Jesse is hardly getting any rest. His father doesn't have a clu (get it?) what's up with the furnace and assumes Jesse's issues are due to drugs. To make matters worse, he's pretty adamant on getting Jesse to go clean his dang room up and things come to a boil when the kid is about to head off for a swim with his friend and mega-crush Lisa. Frustrated, Jesse tackles cleaning his room in the best way possible: putting on Touch Me (All Night Long) by Wish feat. Fonda Rae and proceeding to dance his ass off.

I'm not sure where Jesse picked up these moves but I don't think it was from MTV; try some quality programming off HBO's Cinemax or perhaps he was getting a feed of CityTV's Baby Blue 2 outa Toronto. There's so many pelvis motions here that even Elvis would toss his hands up and say to bring 'er down a notch. The tune is very catchy though and I don't blame Jesse for getting so into it: cleaning your room is lame and only upbeat music will really make the experience enjoyable. Jesse's methods of cleaning and organizing includes tossing everything into one drawer and closing it with his ass because his hands are busy. Singing into a stick/club/whatever-the-hell-it-is can be fun and this contraption has a ball hidden in one end that pops out with one swift pump; I'm not gonna go all Sex-Ed Teacher here to explain what that symbolizes. I can guarantee you though that if he weren't interrupted, Jesse would have kept the dance moves going all night long and how appropriate: he'd never get to sleep!

Looking for some more tunes to keep you awake from encountering dream demons? Silent Gloves will keep you dancing like Jesse!

Synthetix Weekend Update

Whenever anyone has asked me over the years where I think 80s inspired synth music is 'going' I've always been of the mind the mainstream electronic music markets aren't the place that the music we love will find a new and wider appreciative audience. The market where it's becoming more and more obvious that this music belongs and gains true purpose is in movie, TV and video game soundtracks. I've been hoping that this would become more common place and slowly but surely producers are securing roles in these medium; and I really hope this is long term outlet for the music to be optimally used.

I'd like to take this space to personally congratulate the most recent rockers to get their tunes used in soundtrack work. Congratulations Gost and Lazerhawk for their music that is in the latest Ubisoft blockbuster game Watch Dogs and congratulations to Dynatron for his track that is in the upcoming movie Cold In July. Here's to a lot more of this kind of thing happening in the future!

Put your seats into the take off position as we pull the throttle back to full power for this week's featured AIRBORNE releases!

Glass Apple Bonzai - Glass Apple Bonzai We've been a fan of of Glass Apple Bonzai's brand of 80s driven synth pop on Synthetix.FM thoughout 2014 and this past week has witnessed the release of the first Glass Apple Bonzai album. Containing nine rockin tracks the songs are very thoughtfully presented, leaning towards a morose, early 80s european flavour of synth pop with sparse synthscapes and vocals that brood along nicely indeed. Stand out tracks like 'The Freeze', 'The Fist' and the Numan-esque 'The Girl With The Telephoto Eye' really rock hard and I'm sure you'll find much to enjoy within.

Atrey - Supernova Atrey has been on the Synthetix.FM radar since he blew me away with his Guilty Pleasure track earlier this year. His mix of modern techniques and 80s melodies is sure to excite many fans of the likes of Robots With Rayguns and Starcadian. His new four track EP defies the past, future and present with invigorating mixtures of emotive melodies and crushing arrangements. Atrey explores more ambient pastures too, creating some marvellously constructed atmospheres in 'So Far Away' and 'Naomi'. A great EP that is sure to rock you hard.

Room 8 - Visions Of You After waiting for seemingly aeons the first EP from Room 8 has landed! The announcement of Room 8 in 2012 has finally beared fruit and what delicious tasting morsels they are. I won't go into the history or Room 8 here, but be sure to read their blurb on soundcloud to get up to speed. Containing the title track (plus two remixes) and a second original piece there is a lot of to love about Visions Of You. The title track features 80s synth scene mainstays Electric Youth and is a powerfully delivered gem of 80s synth goodness with poppy hooks and crystalline production. The two remixes provided by none other than Miami Nights 1984 and Plastic Plates provide new avenues for the experience, with the MN1984 version being my pick of the two. 'Geo' is the other original track on this release and it is another beautifully composed and performed slice of sweet 80s synth magic. Here's hoping we get some more Room 8 music soon and that their Transduction album is nearing completion.

---------------------------------------------------

What better way to open up the Weekend Update than with a hot new track from Foreign Blade. This producer's latest piece is full of action and rocks a triumphant atmosphere full of synths, guitars and marching percussions. 'From Duke To Messiah' rocks hard and is currently available for FREE download.

Hello Meteor continues to impress with each new track and 'I'll Come Back For You' is one of his strongest piece yet. The sublimely atmospheric synthscape is accented with crisp elements and then swells into an incredibly rich melodic final act. Although short in length, this is massive in scope.

Delivering a different kind of intensity is the new track from Pyramid Aeon. The energy in this track is undeniable as it's modern synth sounds blend with 80s emotions and climb ever star-ward and the narrative is rich and rewarding from beginning to the exciting conclusion. You can pick up a copy of this track at a name-your-own price point on Bandcamp here.

The Dust Collective were introduced to me by Denovomutans recently, whom I'd like to thank for doing so. 'Ripper' by The Dust Collective is another killer track being used on The Outrunners webcomic and is ride down dangerous streets into a world of violence and disorder. The piece is put together to maximise the tension and intrigue and does so very well. Currently available for FREE download too.

Hot new music from RF Extreme next with his new synthual experience 'Digital Directional'. This track is a magnificent blend of his OutRun and Synth Romance sounds which combine into an amazing new experience. The scope is huge and the story deep and involving as each chapter progresses.

Although it is policy on Synthetix.FM to no cover unfinished demo/WIP/previews etc, I decided to break this rule with the rockin new Ward-IZ track 'Night Mission' as even though it's listed as being a preview it is available for download in this form. And this form it totally rockin to the max! The high energy is kept high and the melodies soar with beautiful 80s nuance. Get on it while you can!

A new rocker for Synthetix.FM is Varier and his kick arse new tune 'Dynamic Processing'. The mix of modern and slightly ChipTune influenced sounds complement a delightfully emotive 80s progressions and lead into some very interesting passages. Varier is just beginning his 80s synth journey and I look forward to experiencing more of it in the future.

The Neon Vandal is smashing up all kinds of action in his great new track 'New Wave Funk'. Channelling just enough Paul Hardcastle the synths rock with a salacious groove that is undeniably infectious. I really love the use of vocals and samples in this piece, totally rockin.

One of Silent Gloves and myself's closest bonds is our deep love for Michael Cassette's Temporarity album from 2010, which is still one of the greatest albums released thus far the bridges vintage and modern sounds in a very individualised way. Silent Gloves taken his homage one step further and released a new two track EP that is directly inspired by this record and given the at Silent Gloves magic touch that we so dearly love. Both tracks are totally kick arse and available to purchase via Bandcamp here.

Alter Sun continues to impress with his atmospheric and emotional synth compositions. 'When The Sun Goes Down' is his latest track and the journey is epic and full of 80s wonder. The progression of the story is executed with much dexterity and the three chapters are beautifully realised.

The talent of Sebastian Gampl continues to impress this week with no less than two incredibly beautiful pieces of classically styled 80s synth work being shared by this exciting producer. 'As Time Goes By' manages to be full of sentiment and emotional investment without becoming strictly synth romance while 'Clara' goes head over heels in love with an intimate aural love letter. You can pick up a copy of 'As Time Goes By' via Bandcamp here.

Unleashing all manner of electrifying synth magic is Pulse 80 with his killer new tune shared this week entitled 'Staunton'. The in-your-face production is just totally rockin and the melodies resonate deeply within the synthscape. A massive track that is also currently available for FREE download.

Riddlis has come up with something rather special in his new piece titled 'Alaska'. Taking a break from the usual synth surrounds of neon lit city streets we take an invigorating journey into the heart of the wilds of Alaska. The synthscape sparkles with natural beauty and conveys a vast open landscape of limitless possibilities. Structures ebb and flow with natural grace and are all encompassing in their brilliance. Top work, Riddlis!

Our final track this week is actually form 1991 but has only just been released. Krzysztof Duda is a Polish artist who has been making synth music since the 80s and continues to produce as well as share his older work that has often times, such as this, remained unreleased. '4 Miles 2 Davis' was written in memoriam of Miles Davis by Duda just before his funeral. The tones and progressions of this piece and stunning to behold, and the mastery of Krzysztof Duda is evident throughout. Twenty three years on, it's still rockin to the max.

Our video feature this week is the official video for Room 8's 'Visions Of You', which takes future romance to all new levels of technological endeavours amid a pastiche of neon colours.

That does it for another Weekend Update on Synthetix.FM. I'll be back during the week with Kasia for more rockin tunes from the 80s inspired synth scene, but there won't be a Weekend Update next weekend as I'll be taking a break over the long weekend here in Australia.

'Til then, stay 80s and keep on rockin.

Synthetix Weekend Update

Welcome to another Weekend Update on Synthetix.FM. You may notice there are two new additions the site's layout as I welcome a permanent link to Project Friday on the right column. Project Friday is a LIVE weekly radio show presented by Steve 'Silent Gloves' Gillson and delivers a totally kick arse show dedicated to 80s inspired synth and also includes other electronic genres as well as original 80s classics. This show is massively professional and encourages live participation through the Project Friday chatroom. Project Friday happens 9pm EST, U.S time every Friday night and I for one make sure I'm there to be part of the rockin radio action.

The other addition to the site is a new email form on the left hand side. As the scene grows and more and more music is released it's getting more and more difficult to keep on top of all the new releases. Through my searches and followings I get to find a lot of new music and the Synthetix.FM Facebook group is a truly marvellous source too but now I've added a way for you to contact me directly if you find or are a producer of 80s inspired synth music. Please feel free to contact me with any leads or your own tunes if you'd like them to be covered on Synthetix.FM.

Speaking of hot rockin tunes, we get to open this week's Weekend Update in a most radical of ways with another Synthetix.FM EXCLUSIVE from Plaisance!

'Kids' is the first track from Plaisance's upcoming full length album 'Children Of The 80s' and it promises to be full of Plaisance synth magic. This producer's authentic 80s production style is perfect for the youthful exuberance of the 80s. I'm really looking forward to this project as Plaisance's work in other thematics, particularly his seaside series, has been able to capture the moods and emotions of the subject eloquently and with great beauty. This track is full of vibrant melodies and has a very energetic and bouncy characteristic to it's story, and will be sure to brighten your weekend.

Cougar Synth has ventured into the realms of sensuality and intimacy with his new track 'Afterglow'. I love how the synthscape is so delightfully radiant and uncomplicated, allowing for each glance and touch to resonate with affection. Stunning work again from Cougar Synth and he's been so kind as to make this a FREE download too.

Garth Knight's also taking a road to romance with his latest 'Regardez Moi'. This has a much more, dare I say, Com Truise like personality to it with waves of synths being manipulated in pulsing nebulas forms that illuminate an aura of atmosphere warping romance. This is a totally rockin experience and gives Garth Knight yet another synth genre to draw from.

It's a return to the classic and wonderful Lost Years sound with his latest teaser 'The Other Side Of You' from this prolific producer. Listed as a 'studio session' this piece is full of Lost Years' marvellous OutRun energy, everything about it screams quality and the arrangements are already thrilling. In it's completed form this promises to be one hell of a ride.

New music next from Android Automatic with 'Neon Waves'. A fast paced melody leads into high level action OutRun with italo tinged melodies. This track leads into a sumptuous midpoint change that really adds a lot of perspective to the experience. The narrative is very impressive and really keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. Currently available for FREE download.

Like Mowrey is back with an atmospheric new experience going by the name of 'Contact'. Smoothly undulating soundtrack elements are flavoured with a very introspective exploration of the melodies. The end result is hugely powerful, making the most of it's uncomplicated soundscape in a very engaging manner.

Vector Hold cites the classic 80s nuclear-thriller Def Con 4 as the major inspiration for his new track 'The Terminals'. Dark and mechanical in it's presentation the synths whisper foreboding prophecies and have a genuine desolation to them. The solitary aftermath is very prominent throughout and provides a very commanding atmosphere. Currently available for FREE download.

From what I can surmise this latest track from Vestron Vulture is a collaborative work with Cymphium, but I might be misunderstanding this. Most importantly this track 'One Word' is a totally rockin experience in action soundtrack synth with an orchestral layer driving the emotions. The combination works exceedingly well with massive action and thrills around every corner. Currently available for FREE download, also.

Alpha Boy continues his adventures in synth funk sounds with his latest release 'Roller Boogie'. I really enjoy the Alpha Boy style in this format, it seems to allow his melodies to mesh more with the rhythm sections and provide a very cohesive soundscape. Definitely a wonderful new direction for Alpha Boy to expand his repertoire in.

Speaking of journeying into new territories the latest Stellar Dreams composition sets a course for dark synth horror in 'Terror Street'. The synths are full of nightmarish qualities and story is rich with an ambiance of fright. This is a very strong track that builds and delivers a perfectly constructed experience in the dark synth dread.

Lightening the mood but keeping your pulse rate high is a new experience from Bobby Outro titled Giorgio Moroder. This piece takes many cues from Moroder's late 70s disco synth pieces and then adds some more drama to mix with soundtrack inspired progressions. Many thanks to Aminova for enlightening me into this exciting producer.

Dance With The Dead unleashed a new track of their own horror OutRun persuasion with 'Came The Dawn'. This 'demo version' is absolutely rock hard with it's pounding drums and sublimely wondrous synth melodies. These guys have been hinting at a mid year release of their debut album and as that gets closer and closer my anticipation grow exponentially.

Poko Cox keeps rockin super hard ans his latest song takes his sounds to new levels of excitement. 'Paralyzed' is exemplary 80s inspired song writing with an incredible vocal track and the melodies are catchy as hell. Totally kick arse in all the right ways, Poko Cox always rocks.

Sunglasses Kid ramped up his already extreme work rate this week with no less than five new tracks on his soundcloud. Although these were predominantly new vocal mixes of existing tracks they're no less rockin or valuable as this really displays how much this producer wants to expand his horizons. This new version of 'My Destiny' featuring the always delightful vocal talents of Dana Jean Phoenix makes for a classic 80s synth pop experience par excellence. Be sure to check out the other new tracks on his soundcloud too.

New music new from Last Ride and his demo for the OutRun epic 'Streets of 2012'. Clocking in at more than seven minutes this piece really takes it's time to explore the melodies and soundscapes of it's creation. Even more surprising is that during this experience the music never loses it's direction or disengages the listener. By moving through numerous set pieces it really captures the imagination of the listener exceptionally well. Many thanks to Richard Kelly for enlightening me to this artist. 'Streets of 2012' currently available at a name-your-own-price point on Bandcamp currently too.

Robots With Rayguns brand of 80s drenched, vocal sample driven music is back with his slow and sensual ode to Selena Gomez titled 'Selena'. The music a steamy and licentious exploration of unrequited lust that becomes a dangerous obsession. RWR has been kind enough to allow this intimate experience to be available for FREE download, for our own personal fantasies.

After the masterful 'So Real' (featuring Patrick Baker) Silent Gloves has returned with a new magical synthscapade called 'We Live Forever'. This piece is more musical beauty incarnate as the lingering synth melodies intimate incredibly lustrous permutations, coloured with a vibrancy that glows with memories of the past and promises of the future. Pure majesty.

Chaconne is one of Synthetix.FM's favourite producers, I'm a massive fan of his soundscapes. Every piece of music he creates is so full of emotion and understanding of 80s sounds that each new release is like a religious experience. 'Dreamers' just solidifies this further with his gloriously rich instrumentations and dazzling arrangements. This is also currently a FREE download.

That does us for another big Weekend Update on Synthetix.FM. I hope you've enjoyed these tracks as much as I have. I'll be back next week with more good times and great rock'n'roll so 'til then, stay 80s and keep on rockin.

So Real That It's Unreal

The musical deluge of April, 2013 has finally peaked. The epicentre and focusing of all elemental powers has exploded with a force that will be felt for generations to come. The storm of sounds through the month have all been a precursor to a a once-in-a-lifetime event of monumental brilliance.

Today, the 22nd of April 2013 will be remembered as the day the 80s inspired synth scene took it's next evolutionary step. Ushering in a brave new future of music with a bar raised so high the heavens themselves must crane their necks upwards to bear it's witness.

The release of So Real by Silent Gloves featuring Patrick Baker has arrived. A song I originally experienced late 2012 which has affected me deeply and moved me far beyond that which I thought was possible. Upon it's release we all have a chance to make this part of history our own and let it become a part of us forever.

So Real (feat. Patrick Baker) by Silent Gloves

The perfect storm analogy runs deeper than most listeners to this opus will ever know as the story behind it's inception, creation and evolution was something I had the pleasure of experiencing first hand. The magic that occurred that night when the powers of the universe cast a beautiful muse to work her magic between Silent Gloves and Patrick Baker, live on Project Friday sparked a fire that glows with eternal presence and will forever be a torch, held aloft for the heart's of millions.

The song itself is something I'm still, after many, many listens trying to fully absorb. 'So Real' attains a perfection to an 80s inspired synth pop song that is something I'm unable to entirely fathom. Each element I attempt to dissect becomes a universe in itself that defies my understanding, every chord, word and beat is like a blinding eclipse of brilliance one only retains a ghosted memory of upon further lamentation.

The combination of melody and vocal are inexorably tied together in a melding of emotional dimensions that run as passionate as they run deep. The instrumentations are the essence of everything that makes the 80s so magical, while sounding fresh but even more so, absolutely timeless. The longing emotion of every teenage crush, summer romance and adult love affair has been joined in an embrace that fills the unrequited need with an empathic anthem that will forever endure.

'So Real' is the reason why I listen to music. Purified into four minutes and forty four seconds is every dream, reality and possibility of emotional connection I could have for someone else, and it describes these feelings with an intimacy I hope I one day get to be made so real for myself. But this is what music is all about, it makes us feel something and conveys those deepest of emotions in ways that words fail at alone.

The 'So Real' EP is presented on Rosso Corsa Records Bandcamp page here and comes packaged with remixes from Sim0ne, Miami Nights 1984 and Mitch Murder. This single is not only one of the high points of 2013 but one of the biggest pleasures I've had listening to music, period. This is the definition of a Synthetix Reference Experience and I hope you allow it take you in it's eternal embrace as deeply as possible.

In reverence to this masterpiece this will be the only post on Synthetix.FM this week. Normal programming will continue with the next Weekend Update.

Synthetix Weekend Update

A slightly early Weekend Update this week as I'm getting away for a few days down the coast chasing waterfalls during my vacation. Regularly scheduled programming on Synthetix will return on Thursday the 4th of October. Til then, keep on rockin hard and enjoy the cream of the crop from this week in the 80s inspired synth scene.

First up we have a new track from a new talent on the scene. Russian producer Ezavskih's track Night Of The Comet is a moody piece of dark synth with 80s personality out the ying yang. Style after the classic 80s movie this brings to mind lots of apocalyptic visions as the sirens scream the death knell for humanity. I'm looking forward to hearing more from Ezavskih in the post apocalyptic future!

Although verging the borders of ChipTune material the new two track EP from Arcade Metropolis is most definitely 80s through and through and the arrangements and orchestrations throughout both tracks are superb. Theres a dark edge to both pieces, but the energy as is a neon lit as it gets and both have a presence that is totally irrepressible.
.

Jaypeau's turning up the heat with his new composition of scifi themed drama: Fire In The Sky. This producer's upping the ante with each new track and is getting a lovely glossy polish to his sound. Theres a spatial nature to all of Jaypeau's tracks and this one is amping it up to epic proportions.

Fanateek One's unleashed more electrofunk 80s rockin with Night Drive. I really love this track, the bass line and percussion are absolutely stunning. Fanateek One is getting his sounds so perfectly refined and in the process finding his own musical voice. This is surely a sign of an impending EP or LP release in the near future with any luck.

In last week's Weekend Update I shared the Greetings Program remix of Warrior by Kimbra/A-Trak and Mark Foster. This week we have Silent Gloves reimagining of this song and again it brings forth much 80s love. It's a toss up for me which one I prefer, but I do prefer Greetings Program's work through the chorus to Silent Gloves. That said, this remix has extra dimensions through the break down.
You can't go wrong either way, so please vote for both!

A new untitled demo from Andy Fink really caught my attention this week. Although obviously still in a very early and formative stage I can't help but be hypnotised by the majestic percussion track. The effects on the drums compliment the bent keyboard melodies flawlessly. I can only dream about what this will evolve into!

One of the absolute highlights in album releases this year has been Pilotpriests Orginal Motion Picture Soundtrack (click here for the full Synthetix review of this wonderful album). Pilotpriest has unearthed another track intended for the album but it didn't make the cut. Nighthawks isn't what I'd call traditional 80s synth by any means, but the mix of early 90s sounds, modern sounds and lots of magic 80s synth-fluence make for a very interesting experience.

Our final track this week is from none other than LA Dreams. It's yet another beautiful piece of rapturous 80s synth love with his piece FutureEarth Contact. Using some classic NASA samples and and a thumping rhythm section brings an element of drama to the track, but it still keeps those velvet smooth LA Dreams synth melodies at the forefront. If you missed my interview with LA Dreams this week please click here to learn a bit more about this gifted producer of quality 80s experiences.

That does us for September 2012 on Synthetix, as I said I'll be back in action and rockin hard from Thursday the 4th of October. Until then thanks for spending some of your valuable weekend on Synthetix, stay true and stay 80s.

Getting High On Remixes

I wanted to cover something a little different today on Synthetix. Although I strive to cover 80s inspired synth music exclusively I'm not one to shy away from quality remixes of modern tunes given a classically 80s flavour from the scene's producers.

House mainstay Lifelike has released a new track with Popular Computer entitled Getting High. To my ear the song itself is pretty cool, but it's not something I'd fall in love with. But when Tommy, Final DJ's, Silent Gloves and Collins get into action and work their own 80s magic into the music we get some interstellar results.

Each producer brings their own love to the experience. From Tommy's restrained ethereal musings, to Silent Gloves' sweeping and building delivery to Collins robotic space safari through to Final DJ's melodiously synthesized melange. Getting High gets taken to the next level in each remix and sounds all the more exciting for it.

These tracks make it plain to see that the scene is able to inject the 80s love in just the right doses to cure anyone's modern doledrums. Afterall, sometimes all we need is a little of that 80s magic in our day to make it a special one.

Synthetix Weekend Update

It's time for another Weekend Update on Synthetix to keep your weekend rockin' hard and often.

Lets start off the weekend update with some high energy electro breaks courtesy of Aud10botz. "My syntheisizer is a futuristic weapon" has to be one of the raddest lyrics I've heard of late. This track should be cranking as loud as possible out of your boombox while you're poppin' and lockin' on a local street corner this week.

Penguin Prison recently had a remix competition for his Fair Warning song, but unfortunatley Silent Gloves was too late in completing his entry. This is even more unfortunate as it's a totally kick arse remix that has beautifully interweaved 80s magic with Penguin Prison's vocals. Like most of Penguin Prison's releases I find the remix much stronger than the original and this is yet another classic example of this.

Perturbator's fast becoming the hardest working man in the 80s inspired synth scene as he's just released yet another track. This time another collaborative piece with none other than Starforce. This combination has given us Aurora Haze which capitalizes on both of their strengths, combining into a total powerhouse of epic and spatial cosmic synth wonder. I find it interesting that virtually all of Perturbators dark synth sounds are absent in this track, which is definitely broadening his scope as a composer. Aurora Haze is one hell of a ride.

Another release that caught my ear this week was Syncroft's She Is Like The Flex. This breakbeat funk synth piece is fantastic, the melodies are just brilliant. A minimalist approach makes everything work even harder, superbly crafted indeed.

Lost Years, in his infinite creativity, gave us a teaser for his new track entitled West Side Lane. This is so exciting and action packed that the minute we've been given to enjoy seems like a lot longer. Once again Lost Years has me champing at the bit for a full length release of his new works. Hopefully this will happen soon!

Dynatron released the throroughly incredible The Pulsating Nebula this week, which feels a lot like a companion piece to his recent Aurora Nights track. This is more undulating space synth that creates a totally tangible atmosphere of star filled galaxies at the heart of a swirling nebula. A sumptuous feast for the ears and the imagination.

This does it for another Weekend Update on Synthetix. Please forgive the tardiness of this post, but I'm still adjusting to the new interface on Blogger and to say I'm not enjoying it is a monstrous understatement. But this isn't going to stop more rockin' 80s synth action coming thick and fast all next week.

Synthetix Weekend Update

Every weekend I'll be posting a mini-catalogue of new releases that have cropped up during the weak. These might be pre-releases, old material being re-released or single tracks. This will serve to be a bit of a weekend catch-up for those wanting be kept fully abreast of the week's happenings in the scene.

First off a great new teaser from Australia's own Countach with On The Horizon. Another beautifully downtemp moody piece, perfectly composed as per usual from this artist.

Lameboy Advance released another killer track in Irreversible Act. We'll be covering a lot more on this artist in the coming weeks, but this is a great introduction to his style.

Pilotpriest proved his wonderful talents yet again in the synth soundtrack fuelled The Last Dragon. Pilotpriest had a very interesting and entertaining sound, one I'm a great fan of, and one I'll be looking forward to experiencing and sharing more of.

Kid Machine kicked things up a notch with his track Cyborganism demo track. This is pure 80s synth love, complete with a futursitic robotic bent that works exceptionally well. As a demo track this promises to deliver in spades!

One of the backbones of the 80s synth scene, Lost Years, also released a gorgeous new piece called "Cold: 80s Film Score (2012 Version)". This is a classic piece of Lost Years gold, beautiful melodies and meticulous production.

Lastly, but certainly not least, we have a very exciting new teaser from Silent Gloves entitled Allskate. This little piece of heaven is one hell of a wild ride. Can't wait to hear more from this artist.

I hope you enjoyed this first Weekend Update, and look forward to sharing more exciting and enlightening new music with you soon!
