Synthetix Weekend Update

In the short space of a year it has been wonderful to see the huge increase in physical releases in the 80s inspired synth scene. I once thought it was a fantasy to be able to own my favourite releases on cassette or vinyl (I'm not a CD collector) and in 2014 it has become a far more regular occurrence. As a fan nothing beats 'owning' a part of an artist you follow, the music industry in general is in danger of removing this vital link between the artist and their audience with digital downloads and streaming services, becoming something an entire generation will just take as a convenience.

Music shouldn't be convenient. It shouldn't be something we become flippant about and just assume will always be there for us. We as fans need to make investments in those making the music, this entirely the reason why Synthetix.FM came about, to get that connection between the music makers and their potential audience. Being able to have a connection with a an album via a physical representation of that work is a tactile and emotional experience that is hugely special and is something that makes the music a much more permanent part of what the music means to us.

The two business models that I see working very well currently are the pre-order and then the re-issue. The upcoming Perturbator release through Telefuture Records is a superb opportunity to really hype up this auspicious release. Perturbator has a larger following than many in the scene and the excitement associated with owning a prestige format physical release with all the extras is very enticing. You can preorder a copy here, which I highly encourage.

The other method, which I see as a very attractive model for minimal initial outlay is what Highway Superstar has just done. If you head on over to his Bandcamp page here you'll find a whole bunch of rockin merchandise and physical copies of his magnificent  Take My Time album from last year. The genius of this kind of model is releasing the physical version six months after the digital release is a far less risky decision based on how the record has sold as well as bringing those special albums back into the audience's psyche.

When was the last time you listened to Take My Time? A month? Two months? More? But the fond memories for this kick arse record are now part of your musical memories and the chance to now own it  in a physical format and revisit those golden moments is something I find massively attractive. I'm quite happy as a fan to buy an album digitally, fall in love with it, and then fall in love with it all over again with a version I can enjoy a whole other level. The 80s inspired synth scene's music has the wonderful quality of being timeless, meaning a reissue of an album from even five years ago would be something I'd certainly be willing to pay for. Who wouldn't want to own Mitch Murder's Current Events on vinyl? Or Tommy's Outer Space Adventurer in a premium format? This model serves as the perfect opportunity to bring that magic back where it belongs.

I'd like to personally congratulate all the rockin labels out there who are now releasing physical versions of the talent they have on board. To Werkstatt Recordings, Girlfriend Records, Playmaker, Future 80s Records and all the other labels and independent producers out there making my musical fantasies come true; I salute you, and hope that physical releases are a mainstay of the 80s inspired synth scene. Be sure to check out the links to these labels and more in the links section on the right hand side of this page and have a browse around, you never know what you'll find and what you might have missed. Also, get rockin on the Facebook group Synthwave Cassette Club here for more hot info and news.

And remember: if you don't buy them; they WILL go away.

Time to get rockin with some music that'll be sure to get you feeling the G's as we pull out of a nose dive into a spectacular barrel roll with this week's AIRBORNE feature releases!

WARD-IZ - The Chase EP Australia's WARD-IZ has a killer new two track EP up for your delectation that is a one-two punch of knock-OutRun rockin. The fast pace and climbing melodies are arranged in a fashion to maximise excitement with rubber burning and synths ablaze in a 80s four wheeled firestorm! Definitely a kick arse debut for WARD-IZ, proudly presented by Wave Runner Records who will be hosting his debut full length album sometime in 2014.

Jupiter 8 - Vigilante 2 It has been hard to keep up with all the Jupiter 8 releases as this rocker just keeps cranking out EPs on an almost weekly basis. I haven't felt the magic in much of his recent work but his Vigilante 2 EP is something rockin. The synthscape is sparking with electricity and the tracks are much more thought out and arranged with emphasis placed on the melodies rather than just the sounds. Stand out tracks like 'Fighting Back' and 'Ghetto Blaster' display Jupiter 8's stronger points, which I hope he delves into further in the future.

jAke - Cracks  A new three track release from jAke caught my attention this week. The Cracks EP is a great little excursion into some fantastic 80s moods and sounds with the title track being totally rad to the max. This song has a very impressive vocal that has a quality akin the Robert Plant's Principle Of Moments work, which is totally killer. The pop sensibilities of jAke are most prominent in 'Cracks' but the 80s magic glows with different colours in the also kick arse '(Who Stole My) Pony (?)' that has its tongue firmly planted in cheek with high energy 80s vibes rockin hard.

---------------------------------------------------

Let's kick things off with a hot new track from KALAX, a summer anthem for the burgeoning season aptly titled 'A Summer's Dream'. This piece has a really great energy in the bassline that the romantic sax parts play off of beautifully. It's a great mix of sounds that make for total 80s magic.

The off kilter timing in the new track from Android Automatic provides for an engaging and consuming experience. The atmosphere in 2024 gives off a night-stalker feel, being unbalanced and ever so slightly out of control. The dark of the night is a brooding shadow, hiding the pain of the tortured soul.

Rockin darker vibes this week also is Waveshaper with his 'Breakdown (Instrumental)' track that seethes and pulses with enigmatic sounds that echo danger and powerful melodies. The choked-out synthscape struggles against overpowering odds and each dramatic passage takes you further into the haunting melancholy.

Alter Sun has a superb new track out this week in 'Purple Clouds' which is a poignantly written excursion into 80s melodies. There are some darker elements at play but the tone is much more introspective and a bright positivity rings through the wonderfully explored melodies.

The glisteningly sweet synth romance sounds of Robert Parker will be sure to get you feeling that 80s love. 'Seventeen' is yearning and crushed out with uplifting melodies and bright nuances, full of wide eyed adoration and teenage passion. Definitely this week's home room anthem in Shermer. Be sure to pick up a copy of this great track for FREE via the download link in the player.

The first victim of my forced move from 'classic' soundcloud to the 'new' soundcloud was unfortunately Arc Neon's 'Body Talk' that came out a couple of weeks back, I do apologise for not covering this totally killer track last week, I hope I can get accustomed to the 'new' soundcloud so this doesn't happen often. That said, this track rocks hard and 'Body Talk' is currently available for FREE download via the player.

Droid Bishop keeps on creating superb synthscapes of verdant 80s lushness and with 'Momentary Love' he's captured a magnificent range of sounds that are both funky and atmospheric with emotionally charged melodies driving the experience. This track is available on the Stratford CT. Compilation available here.

Flexing his synth muscles and powering into oblivion is Grooveworthy with his powerhouse new slice of action packed drama titled 'God-Powered Android'. The build on this is totally kick arse as each chapter layers in new combustible elements that are then exploded with aural vibrations and dimensional energies in the final act. A great return to 80s sounds for Grooveworthy and this piece is also currently available for FREE download.

The late 2000s crossover with nu-disco and 80s sounds produced some fantastic moments in musical experiences and one of my favourite acts of that time are back with a hot new EP. 7he Myriads mix some modern ideas within arrangements that are both contemporary and retro oriented but always with a classy vintage vibe and in 'Out Of The Maze' they achieve this splendidly well. Here's to the triumphant return of 7he Myriads and their Labyrinth Of The Minotaur EP.

Speaking of mixing modern and vintage ideas, here comes Myrone with his kick arse guitars of distinction rockin down the highway in 'Virtual Island Paradise'. I've stated numerous times that Myrone is one of my favourite new talents of 2014 thus far and this track just reinforces that. The arrangements are incredibly rich and even with that oddly chosen rap passage, the 80s energies in this track just soar into wondrous new dimensions of the raddest kind. Rock it for FREE download while you can!

Whilst on the subject of exciting new talent someone whom I just discovered who totally rocked my world is Sebastian Gampl. This producer's innate understanding of 80s melodies and progressions is totally on point and his striving for authenticity is something very special indeed. His latest track 'Under Control' is a totally kick arse example of this but also check out his amazing 'Have You Heard' track, which is also available for purchase on Bandcamp here.

Heading out into bright lights and disco nights is the hot new rocker from Garth Knight 'Knight Of The Disco'. The powerful bassline and high energy drums create a thumping disco vibe that the spacey synth melodies just cruise along beautifully. Rock the disco vibes all night long by adding this to your Garth Knight collection via the purchase link in the player.

Pure Secks has been producing some really interesting sounds over the last few months.  Whilst I've really enjoyed the lion's share of them a lot weren't particularly 80s enough to cover on Synthetix.FM. With his latest work that is definitely not the case as 'Business Or Pleasure' really nails the 80s mood and creates a sparse, dreamy synth atmosphere. This piece is currently available for FREE download also.

I must say, since LA Dreams has been working on other projects this past couple of months that I've really missed his regular album releases. But alas, all is not lost! He's still rockin hard and has released a great new track this week titled 'Open Air'. And the open air feels as good and fresh as LA Dreams' magical 80s synth music.

When it comes to rockin collaborative work there are few as prolific as STARFORCE and the latest piece in this ongoing series is a super hot new track with Action Jackson. My favourite part about 'Time Shock' is that it accurately captures the strong suits of both producers and mixes their styles into the perfect blend of Action Jackson's other worldly melodies and STARFORCES epic progressions. Totally kick arse, and available for FREE download via the player.

Our feature video for this week's Weekend Update is from none other than RF Extreme and a video he has created to accompany his beautiful new work 'Past Deflection'. The racing video is the  perfect accompaniment the RF Extreme trademark melodies that are both graceful and highly charged. It is an entrancing mix of audio visual entertainment the justly captures the RF Extreme magic.

That does us for another big Weekend Update on Synthetix.FM, I hope your weekend rocks that little bit harder with these kick arse 80s tunes providing the soundtrack.

I'll be back during the week with Kasia for more rockin tunes from the 80s inspired synth scene.

'Til then, stay 80s and keep on rockin.

Synthetix Weekend Update

Rounding the corner for the final straight of 2013 rockets the new Synthetix Weekend Update into first place. This is the last Weekend Update for 2013 as next weekend, or soon after, I'll be sharing the second annual Synthetix.FM Year End Synthstravaganza. This festival of 80s inspired synth will include my favourite Top 10 tracks from each genre I cover on Synthetix.FM as well as the Synthetix.FM Ultimix for 2013 to get you through the holiday season. I'll then be taking my leave of Synthetix.FM until the end of January for my annual vacation.

It's always an exciting time leading up to the year's end, and the last couple of weeks have witnessed some super heavy hitting tracks released and this week has been no exception with some of the most rockin hits of the year being shared by the most rockin producers in the 80s inspired synth scene, all brand new for you!

Crank up the volume and prepare to blast for the last time to the 80s dream of 2013 with the Synthetix Weekend Update!

RF Extreme has definitely been one of my favourite producers of the year and his work has culminated with the incredibly beautiful 'Time Stood Still'. This glowing exposition of embracing Synth Romance gets right to the essence of sounds and beauty working together as one. I'm sure we can expect even more sumptuous synthphonies from RF Extreme in 2014.

Logan Sky's been much too busy playing synths in Visage during their Hearts And Knives tour throughout most of the year but has managed to squeeze in a hot new track before the end of 2013 called 'Love's a Re-Run'. This funky/jazzy ambiance takes you on a freeform journey through Logan Sky's creativity and the experience feels like a wonderful stream of consciousness.

You'll find numerous Synthetix.FM favourites returning for this final Weekend Update and it's marvellous to be able to include Fantastisizer amongst them. His aptly titled 'The Return' is moody and contains a hint of uneasiness and foreboding in the progressions. The story is captivating and marvellously orchestrated with a vastly immersive presence throughout.

Riddlis is still finding his own sound as a producer, I believe, and his recent sounds have been of a much more modern flavour but with 'Chasing Osaka Sun' we find Riddlis back in the 80s and rockin to the max. The production a cacophony of sounds that are all full of energy, jostling for position in the synthscape and it's this massively inspiring energy that drives the experience so perfectly well. The passages are explored with much passion and emotion and wondrous 80s homage.

Often times it's the surprising mixtures of aesthetics that I never thought possible to combine makes for the most engaging experiences in 80s inspired synth. The latest track from Reggie Hazzard is a great example of this as Synth Romance sounds are blended with influences from Joy Division/New Order. The presentation of this is spectacular and really captures emotional spaces and times beautifully.

The magic of the season is truly realised in the totally kick arse new track from LA Dreams called 'No Other' and featuring the vocal talents of Kye Munroe. This takes the LA Dreams synthscapes into a funky late 80s synth pop vibe that I hope he continues to explore. The pop sensibilities of LA Dreams are a territory that remains vastly undiscovered and this combining of talents certainly makes for very exciting music which I just can't get enough of.

Over the last month a hot new label has surfaced in Future 80s Records. They've managed to crank out a massive amount of releases in the last few weeks and unfortunately I don't have the space on Synthetix.FM to cover them all. Their stable already features many Synthetix.FM favourites like Kubinski, Niky Nine, John Sparxx, Scream & Dive, Absolute Valentine and Stallone Jones amongst many others, be sure to check out their Bandcamp page here for a tonne of hot rockin action.

Now though I'd like to share their latest kick arse track from Station A3 - 'For The Victory'.  This piece of music is a richly textured journey into the past that tells a story full of action and adventure with searing highs and gorgeously realised introspective passages. You can pick up a copy of Station A3's  five track EP Rewind Night through Future 80s Records here to keep on rockin this awesome vibe.

Another Future 80s Records artist new to Synthetix.FM is Night Invader. His track 'Midnight Dreams' is off his four track EP called Inception (available here) is an enchanting experience in emotional synth passions. The lead melody explores with a tender intimacy and is accented by a delightfully delicate atmosphere. Many thanks to Halyein for the heads up on this superb track.

Action and drama are the order of the day with the hot new track from Nympho Airwaves called 'Symbol Visa'. The synthscape is full of passionate energy and evolves with a swirling undulation. The midpoint finds an explosive range of movie/trailer samples injected into the mix that I first found jarring but on repeated listens really enjoyed. It adds a contrasting rawness to the experience with the flavours of danger becoming much stronger.

One of the big records I'm looking forward to at the climax of 2013 is Highway Superstar's debut album on Rosso Corsa Records. With only a 'December' planned release date I'm currently unsure as to whether I'm going to be able to give this record the proper Synthetix.FM treatment before the year's end. Rest assured, I'll do everything I can to make it happen next week, or failing that hopefully early next year upon my return. For now check out this totally rockin teaser video for Take My Time.

The next installment in Adrien Aubrun & Thomas Trichet's 'Neo Flashback' adventure has arrived and it rocks to the max! I was floored by their first experience in this project by their amazing track 'F40 1987' and this new piece explores more rockin retro dimensions. The intensity is there from the outset in this piece but the middle passages and beyond open up to some absolutely resplendent vistas of glorious 80s synth magic. The combinations of modern and vintage sounds and emotions are constructed with just the right balance once again by this rad duo.

A hot rockin new artist for Synthetix.FM is Manolis with his totally kick arse new track 'Stealing The Night'. The funk runs as high as the emotions in this absolutely tremendous odyssey into 80s synthscapes. The melodies are incredible and the arrangements are flawless. This is a huge track that I hope you feel too, and you can also grab a FREE copy of this currently via the link in the player.

New from Neon Rebel is the high speed OutRun energy rush 'Hyperion'. I think the traditional OutRun sounds haven't really been that prominent in 2013 as the more visceral extension of it in Slash Electro has come into more prominence and Slow Motion OutRun styles get explored further, but I digress. Neon Rebel's new track is a rip roaring ride into the night with the pedal to the floor and the neon reflecting off the paintwork as thousands of horsepower explode in a rage of vengeance and action.

Next up is the spectacular return of another Synthetix.FM favourite in Chaconne with his new funktasticly suave synth experience 'Fashionation'. I just adore Chaconne's energy and the tightness in his delivery. Everything is engineered for maximum excitement and it makes the piece extraordinarily vibrant and intense. You can pick up this track along with his other hot new rockin track  'London Nights' as well as his stunning anthem 'Romance And Revolution' on his just released EP on Bandcamp here, which I very, very highly recommend you do so as soon as humanly possible.

One of the very few producers around still today that can capture the emotions and sounds of the initial 2009/10 80s revival era is Paul For You. The combination of French House, Nu Disco and the implementation of 80s sounds creates for an intoxicating mix and Paul For You is still killing this style years later. His new EP called Somewhere is now available on iTunes and is like a time capsule of those wonderful new times and experiences. The music is still as fresh and energising and full of lustrous 80s homage as always so be sure to check out the EP for more good rockin Paul For You.

Nowtro's begun the hype for his upcoming EP titled 'After Dark' with his kick arse new jam 'Technoir'. The blend of old and new sounds is balanced beautifully as the pace is kept to a canter but the intensity is set to fever pitch. Synths are geared towards excellently detailed passages that pass by smoothly and fade out into the distant night horizon. This EP will be surely one to watch for.

Pushing it to the limit is Grooveworthy's new OutRun rampage 'Giza'. The explosive pace is unrelenting and gallops into oblivion with gusto and disregard for it's own wellbeing. The synthscape is peppered with an atmospheric middle section before hurtling once again into high energy finish. This track is available at a name-your-own-price point on Bandcamp via the link in the player.

Rocking into the dimension of deliciously bubblegum flavoured Synth Pop, once again, sashays Mitch Murder  this time with vocal accompaniment by new 80s synth scene chanteuse Miranda Carey on their new collaborative work 'Just Till Midnight'. The electric combination of sounds makes for something k-rad to the max and has instantly become of the biggest hits of 2013. Every element is crafted to perfection and arranged to ensure this will be echoing in your memories for years to come. Christmas comes early as this sumptuous piece of neon candied magic is available for FREE download via the link in the player. Rock on, Mitch and Miranda!

Our final piece for the final Weekend Update for 2013 keeps things rockin and poppy with The Saturnettes killer new video for 'Television Boy/Television Girl'. Channeling a whole mess of great 80s influences this catchy song is sure to get you rockin all the right ways. From New Order to Depeche Mode and quite a few stops in between The Saturnettes tell a wicked story of technology and romance amid the interference and VHS tracking errors in an experience you'll be sure to be singing along to by it's end.

That does us for traditional Weekend Updates in 2013 on Synthetix.FM. Much time and effort goes in to every Weekend Update throughout the year and it always pleases me that they're often the most visited articles on Synthetix.FM, even long after their time in the spotlight has passed. Many thanks to all the readers and contributors to the Weekend Updates on the site throughout the year, they'll be back in full force for 2014!

There's still a couple of BIG releases to cover on Synthetix.FM next week though, so be sure to tune in during the week for more hot rockin action and I'll be finishing off the year with the Synthetix.FM Year End Synthstravaganza next weekend or soon after, as time permits. 'Til then stay 80s and keep on rockin.

Synthetix Weekend Update

I must apologise for the lack of a second review on Thursday these past two weeks. Sometimes plans just don't work out how you expect them to. Coming into December we have a bunch of hot rockin new releases coming up, so things will be back to normal before Synthetix.FM finishes up for 2013.

One thing that is special, which has cropped up out of nowhere is a new release from Palm Highway Chase. This is not his next massive blockbuster but is instead a subsidiary exploration of some less structured ideas which he so aptly described to me as a 'sketch book'.

Fantasy Recordings is released through Beer On The Rug and if there's enough interest in the album it'll get a physical cassette release, which would rock in a spectacular fashion. The album is full of 80s love and experimental synthscape that are still refined with Palm Highway Chase's own brand of magic.

I highly recommend all Synthetix.FM readers get behind this album and give this legend of the scene the love he deserves! You can pick up a copy through the 'buy' button on the player, and also be aware that only seven of the seventeen pieces are playable through the site preview.

Hot off the digital music forges is the hot new track from Scream & Dive. These rockers from Serbia always manage to make massively enthralling and exciting music and 'Runnin Through The Vicious Streets' is no exception. The action and drama are redlining from beginning to end, which comes all too soon unfortunately. It's their first track in nearly a year, but we can only hope more tunes are on the horizon.

By vast comparison, Viks Lander managed to share no less than three compositions in the last couple of days, albeit after a seven month absence! I was hard pressed to choose my favourite of the three but Andromeda won my heart with it's Library inspired parts and a truly 80s naive aesthetic. Check out his other rockin tunes through his soundcloud page for more golden tones.

I've probably said it before, but it bears repeating; Cobra Copter is one producer I'd love to see an album release from as soon as possible. The synthscapes created by this artist are as wondrous as they are varied. So much 80s love is displayed through his singles that an album package would be totally rockin. In his new track, 'Skyline',  he explore more ambient and spacious sounds, punctuated with funky synths and delivered in a chilled glass for your complete satisfaction.

A new epic from Grooveworthy next which I believe has it's tongue firmly planted in cheek but still rocks in a most radical way. 'Hot Unicorn Forest' is a deep and rich tale of global warming set against the neon realms of 80s fantasy with a slight hint of equinophilia thrown in for extra bonus points. The synths are full of energy and unfettered exuberance while the percussion canters along at a seductively smooth pace.

Cranking the 'epic' off the scale is the incredibly beautiful new piece from Dynatron. Even the title 'Fluorescence Of The Cepheids' is vast but it's the music that reaches previously untapped inspirations from celestial bodies, light years from home. The deliberately restrained pace adds a heavy and purposeful atmosphere to the piece, loading up more and more G-Forces with every progression. A superb return track for Dynatron gives us a glimpse at whats to come on their second album.

A hot new rocker on the scene is Robert Parker, coming straight out of Sweden with his new kick arse tune 'Parket's Theme'. The synthscape is full of beautiful 80s emotions and sounds that layer and build with a smooth gracefulness. The vibe is laden with positivity and wonder as the joyous refrain transforms into a more dramatic second half. Many thanks to David Grant for enlightening me to the Robert Parker experience.

Pilotpriest is back with a spectacular new work of atmospheric soundtrack synth from his Darknet Original Soundtrack project. 'Wounded Bird' is a haunting work that builds with a sombre melody deeply rooted in late 70s space synth sounds. The piece is enthralling and divulges an intimate narrative with it's hypnotising refrains and immense presence.

I can't believe the Versus series on Werkstatt Recordings is already up to Volume 7! While I've not covered a lot of the more EBM oriented releases the 7th edition contains a thrilling bout between Right Nider and Beatbox Machinery that adds some more 80s vibrancy to the battle. Right Nider's track, 'Into The Voight' is exploratory and intense with layers of synths gathering on the horizon in a storm of electronic magic. The melodies are of a delicate nature but then contrasted by a brutal percussion and rhythm section that is sure to result in a knock out blow. Beatbox Machinery offers up a forthright offensive with 'Shining City Tank' that crunches bare steel against bare steel as it darts and weaves in and out of electronic realities, culminating with a huge swing from the rafters late in the second round.

A celestially divined collaboration between Femmepop and Timecop1983 has resulted in a totally kick arse experience in 80s fuelled Synth Pop called 'Timescapes'. Femmepop's sweetly delicate vocals are the perfect accompaniment to Timecop1983's undulating synthscape, the combined forces create warm and intimate moments while always retaining a glassy, polished ambiance.

An artist I sure don't give nearly enough love to on Synthetix.FM is Tokyo Rose. This Japanese producer's brand of high energy OutRun is always as riveting as it is powerful and his new track 'Zender Vision 3' redlines the rad levels throughout. The monstrous percussion and climbing melodies make for the perfect high speed thrill ride into the neon streets Tokyo Rose owns.

It definitely is the time of year for many artist's who've been hibernating away for the year, toiling away on their synths, to finally come out into the light with hot new tracks. We can add Daroc to this list as his new piece is the first we've heard from him in many months but it's certainly been worth the wait. 'Volute Club' is a languid exposition of dreamy synhscapes and magical possibilities told in a majestic narrative. This track is on the Le Burgundy Paris compilation available on iTunes here.

Spacious Sweep has graciously shared not only a kick arse new Italo Disco track in 'Double Edge' but also given us an early Christmas present with a free EP linked within the soundcloud track description. The EP contains many hits singles from Spacious Sweep shared throughout the year on soundcloud and is full of vibrant, 80s coloured experiences that are now available to you as a complete package in their final versions. Spacious Sweep also shared two new tracks in 'Call Of The Wild' and 'Storm Hammer'; both absolutely rockin the classic Italo sounds and well worthy of your attention. Check them out on his soundcloud page linked in the player.

Technomancer or Zone Tripper, perhaps, is another hot new rocker to Synthetix.FM and his latest track Zone Tripper is a high energy blast of late 80s Italo the shines brightly and burns with a searing brilliance. The late 80s/early 90s Italo Disco/Techno crossover is prevalent throughout this piece and it's something I hope Technomancer/Zone Tripper explores more in the future. This track is currently available for FREE download through the player. Many thanks to Werkstatt Recording for enlightening me to Technomancer.

Keeping the energy levels in the danger zone is the first track off the next Vector Hold experience aptly titled 'Supercharger'. The sheer grandiose nature of the instrumentations and the atomic weight of the melodies make for an experience that'll leave you breathless. Vector Hold is planning to release the new album in early January, so we can expect a few more teasers from it between now and then.

Hot new rockin action next from Supervo courtesy of Super Magic Records and the track 'Next Time'. This Italo piece is a tad more restrained than the usual Italo fare, but is no less brimming over with quality 80s sounds and incredibly hooky melodies. I'm still unsure as to whether this is actually new music or old music that Super Magic Records shares on soundcloud, as they recently shared this amazing track which is from 2011 by M@rgo. I guess it doesn't really matter one way or the other, the music is totally kick arse and rockin to the max and that's what matters.

As a special treat I've got two hot videos to finish of this week's Weekend Update with. The first being an absolutely rockin fake video trailer by Silvermania called 'Paperboy 3: The Hard Way' which features much action, violence and stellar oneliners and the music of Protector 101 to add a genuine 80s atmosphere to the wonderful visual exploitation.

The other video I'd like to share is a hot new music video of the combined talents of Countess M and Denovomutans for their brooding Dark Synth single 'Mother Night'. The unsettling tones and haunting melodies are complemented by a fantastic and visually hypnotising video that is well in keeping with the music's tone.

That does us for another Weekend Update on Synthetix.FM, I'll be back during the week with more radical action from the 80s inspired synth scene. 'Til then stay 80s and keep on rockin.

Synthetix Weekend Update

This week's been exceptionally productive in the 80s inspired synth scene, it would seem that with the most 80s of holidays only a month away that producers are preparing for an onslaught of hot rockin tunes. Halloween on Synethix.FM will definitely be one to remember, but more on that in future posts.

Right now we have a huge amount of quality tunes to rock into, so lets take a trip into the past via the future with the new Synthetix Weekend Update!!

Aysyne's fast becoming a force to be reckoned with as each new track he shares expands his musical palette. On 'Ascend' we get to experience a stunningly beautiful lead melody that is given more weight with the dreamy synth accents. It's a joy to experience and is definitely one of Aysyne's strongest tracks.

Next up is a breezy new jam from Danger Mode, appropriately titled 'Timeless'.  Melodic exploration of passionate themes is the order of the day as synths are allowed to ebb and flow with subtlety and delight. This track is currently available for FREE download, many thanks to Vincenzo Salvia for sharing the hype on this one.

Grooveworthy is planning the launch of his Information Age EP in November and has shared a preview of the release. This should be a super exciting release as Grooveworthy's constantly pushing his own creativity and refining his sounds. The music featured includes the absolutely epic 'Information Superhighway' and is keeping the theme of 'emerging' internet technology as the theme. To get to know a bit more about Grooveworthy be sure to check out this week's episode of Beyond Synth that features an very entertaining interview with him here.

It was very interesting this week that two tracks found me that are very similar yet very different. Both are themed around the initial arcade game craze of the early 80s and are laced with samples and driving melodies. The first of these is 'VideoGameCraze', the first track to be shared publicly by Grand National. The soundscape is kept tight and on the minimalist end of the spectrum as news and game samples rock with the delightfully twee lead melody.

Botnit's new track, 'Hi-Score' expands upon the theme further as the high energy OutRun music creates a great tension to the atmosphere. The sample usage also pushes towards these ends as the dark sides of the industry and addiction creep into the frame.  Both these tracks are kick arse in the own rights and make for a great double play experience.

Foreign Blade has graced us with a hot track this week that packs in the drama going by the name of 'Calling Mr. Big Shot'. Keeping things dark and brooding the music alludes to higher powers and glimmers of humanity amid the corporate back biting and hunger for power. This track is currently available for FREE download, so get it rockin as soon as possible.

Future City Records released a hot new three track EP by the rock hard Thunderclaw this week and it's definitely an experience in heavy handed radness. This Miami Vice themed experience combines high energy electro rockin action in strong doses. 'Recoleta' opens things up with smoothly ambient synths that are then blasted into sunset by high voltage electro passages. The combination typifies the contrasting nature of the Thunderclaw experience.

Moods shift darker and become more singularly minded with track two 'Castillo'. Haunting melodies fuelled with night time dangers and begin to choke with intensity. The Thunderclaw soundscape seems to be often pushed to breaking point to enhance the visceral nature of the narratives containing. The third chapter, 'Abel' is a fine example of this style of modern presentation with vintage music to allow for the contrast of beauty and brutality to co-exist in a timeless dimension.

You can pick up the B.A. EP from Thunderclaw through the link in the player below and I'd definitely encourage you to take a three part ride down the dark side of the Florida Key's with Thunderclaw at the helm.

Lets keep in the shadows of the night with the rockin new track from Professor Zonic Zynth and his latest work 'Doomsday MK-1'. The darker path is seldom travelled by the Professor but in this track he allows his synth funk to take on a nocturnal obeisance that is riveting and full of the dangers of the night.

When I go one about the stories and narratives in 80s inspired synth music this is a reflection on how the music evolves, draws you in and then takes you to new places and allows the experience to go beyond the more uniform structures of some electronic music. In RF Extreme's new track, 'Present Daze' we have a textbook example of the use of this kind of structure in an 80s presentation. The opening passages leads to a dramatic middle section before the enlightenment of the final climax. An incredibly beautiful example of quality craftsmanship in the synthient arts. Also be sure to check out a rockin interview RF Extreme has done this past week on Synth Waves here.

Lost Years is back and rockin the italo synth tones on his new gem 'The Kick'. Still in it's early stages of development this is certainly already hitting all the right notes for totally kick arse italo sounds. The pace is kept to a middling canter which allows for the huge percussive flourishes to really resonate for maximum effect.

Dance With The Dead are still yet to settle on the full track line up for their impending album due out this Halloween and with the quality of all the demo's they've been sharing of late it's going to be a hard job to select only one album's worth. Their new track 'Neon' takes on a far less dramatic tone than much of their previous outings, and has a touch of Arcade High about the lead melody that works beautifully well with Dance With The Dead's power house production.

PH Groove is heading for the gym with his new tune 'Legwarmers', and working up a sweat with hooky melodies and energetic arrangements. The PH Groove synth funk sounds are engineered for a more forthright disco flavour this time around and ventures into exciting new territories over it's epic near seven minutes. This track is currently available for FREE download, so make it a part of your work out as soon as you can.

Something a bit of out left field now with the stunning new song from Pistol Shrimp. 'This Moment' features AaronKnute and creates and incredibly beautiful vista of chill/dream wave synthscapes that swells with 80s love. The production is engineered for the perfect presence of each element and the vocal refrain is captured with much poignancy. This reminds me in parts of My Bloody Valentine and the Cocteau Twins, but with a more cinematic flair. It's definitely powered by energies I find much more engaging that a lot of the more sparsely arranged chill/dream wave songs I've heard and it's this huge wall of sound that is so totally enrapturing.

Hot on the heels of her VHS Dreams EP, Palisded has released a killer new synth experience this week called 'Lovestruck'. The bouncing bassline and minimalist melodies are complemented by a marching drum track that ties the experience together. The spatial nature of the synthscape is very engaging and the exploration of the melodies is wonderfully intimated. This track is currently available for FREE download, so get it while you can.

To finish of this week's Weekend Update we have something from the complete opposite end of the synth spectrum with a totally killer new tropical synth piece from James Baker titled 'Un Paradis Tropical'. I just can't get enough of this tune, it's gorgeous 80s naiveté and crisp synthscape is utterly joyous to behold. You can not help yourself but smile all the way through this track and thats one of the truly magical things about 80s inspired synth music. Totally k-rad to the max.

As James Baker's brilliance fades into the sunset it's time to say a bientot on Synthetix.FM for another week of rockin tunes and cosmic jams. I'll be back during the week ahead with more action from finest producers in 80s inspired synth music.

'Til then, stay 80s and keep on rockin.

Synthetix Weekend Update

It's another massive Weekend Update with a hot selection of my favourite tracks to make the scene this past week. I've become very aware that over the next few weeks there are a whole mess of releases and there isn't going to be any way for me to cover all of them how I'd like to. I like to post three to four reviews during the week as time allows, but I've got five already in my waiting list on top of what gets released during the week. I try to make Synthetix.FM the place you can find all the most rockin new sounds in the 80s inspired synth scene, but I fear some releases are already falling through the cracks.

If posting more often was the solution, I'd do just that, but it's not the case. I've noticed that when I've posted more often during the week the posts get very little exposure to you, the audience, and then get shuffled down the page. I pride myself in writing what I feel about music and how it effects me and this takes time and effort to put into words but I love doing it and it's always going to be one of the hallmarks of Synthetix.FM. This means there will be some EPs I miss writing in depth about unfortunately.

Instead I'll be doing more Midweek Triple EP Meltdowns as the need sees fit. These reviews aren't as deep as the stand alone reviews, but I think it's the best option while there is such an abundance of music around. Synthetix.FM always tries to find and support new producers of 80s inspired synth music as a priority and this is the consistent focus of the site. And speaking of which this Weekend Update it full of hot new tracks from emerging producers in the scene as well as the established rockers we're all already fans of so lets get rockin with the Synthetix Weekend Update!

Sunglasses Kid is really making a big splash of late, his absolutely stunning synth romance sounds are a joy to behold and Summer Break Up hammers this home form beginning to end. Emotive synths dance with passionate guitars in a spectacle of pure 80s brilliance.

Someone new to Synthetix.FM in Cinema next. This act is brand new to me and came into my awareness courtesy of my synth-brother-in-arms Thomas Rivette. Cinema have a sultry sound that drips with a sensual mystique which is only magnified by the French chanteuse intimating untold pleasures. Late night sounds with an eye for encounters of the carnal kind.

We have a trio of teasers in this Weekend Update and the first one is for the next Dynatron EP; Flashbacks. The tracks teased in this preview are all full of beauty and soundscapes of dynamic arrangements and the instrumentations seem to be of a huge diversity. This is definitely going to be an exciting release and is due out May 10th.

SPF5Ø is really making some big statements with his music. He reminds me of other avant garde producers like Klockhaus and Camille R in that his sounds are unmistakably 80s, but the delivery is something all together new.❐~❍~❏ is full of exciting sounds that move in and out reality on a crash course with a destiny that is entirely otherworldly. A magnificent experience from start to finish and available for FREE download currently.

After leaving Tesla Boy and embarking on his own solo career Poko Cox is now solidifying his personal soundscapes with super exciting results. 'The Greatest Fear' is a dramatic piece of synth pop with staccato rhythms and dream like melodies. It's a very strong song and I hope theres more Poko magic in the offing soon.

The enigmatic Dreamwave Dave rocked on with his majestic new composition this week called Stand By. This sound is full of refinement and uncomplicated arrangements that allow the music to speak for itself. Melodies intimate deeper knowledge while the percussion marches in time with crisp precision.

Turning up the pace and the heat is Grooveworthy and his killer track Information Superhighway. Moving at a breakneck speed this is exactly the kind of music I'd expect to hear over an 80s documentary explaining the internet. Full of excitement and promises of a bright future this track is available currently for FREE download.

RF Extreme's latest adventure is most certainly into the shadowy side of the synth spectrum. 'Enter Dark Paradise' is a moody dirge which speaks of hidden dangers but contrasts this with a brighter story of hope that rides the crests of the darker tones. Delightfully arranged and thoroughly engaging.

Lazerpsek's launched a rockin new preview for his next EP which is still to be announced, but this teaser is very exciting. This producer's sounds are very unpredictable and highly volatile and from even these short snippets it looks like we're in for a wild ride in the near future with Lazerspek.

It's always a great week when theres new Starforce music released and with Retrospheres Starforce certainly improved mine. This demo cut is a hugely powerful slab of heavy Starforce space synth rockin.  A powerhouse of synth sounds and earth shattering percussion complete the experience, I can only imagine the final form of this piece if this is only the demo.

Adding even more excitement to this past week was the publishing of brand new experience from Miami Nights 1984. 'Deep Blue' finds MN1984 diving deep into a slow motion explosion of fathomless emotions and touching melodies. This is a very intimately written piece that definitely speaks from the heart and soul of the producer.

Next up is the hot new track from Fantastisizer. 'The Chase' is an energetic adventure into the dangers of the night. Exciting percussion and crystalline synth melodies punctuate a dramatic soundscape making the tension burn hot. This track is so smooth and undulating that it really takes the listener on a roller coaster ride, sublimely written and arranged.

Bringing some funky and sexy synth sounds to your weekend is Time Trvlr with Electic Shoes [sic]. I really love this track, it reminds of some of my favourite Synth Erotica pieces with it's high energy drums and sensual sounds and it's thoroughly authentic personality. Definitely a piece to get your weekend rockin with a nudge and a wink and I'll say no more.

MegaDrive is bringing forth the radness in monstrously big doses with his new OutRun opus Dataline. Sounds are pure and clean with punchy percussion and synth melodies totally ripping shit up throughout. This track is ominously strong and overflowing with vibrant 80s energy.

Neon Flash Drive and Foreign Blade teamed up recently for some rockin good times and the result is Stalemate. Epic sounds of ninja synth tones emanate through the night drama with a restrained force that builds like a tidal wave of electricity. 'Stalemate' definitely brings the strengths of both producers to the fore and I hope they work together again in the future. This is currently available for FREE download too.

Dance With The Dead are pursuing the 80s horror synth sound with much fervour and passion. I think this style works exceptionally well with their production styles. 'They Only Come At Night' features much dark synth moods but the main melody refrain is pure jubilation and is wholly uplifting. Yet another superb track from the artists formerly known as Jaypeau and Toe Knee.

Alpha Boy's new EP is set to hit next week and his preview is sounding very promising. The last year has seen a great deal of development and growth in Alpha Boy's style and his music seems to be taking on all new feelings and directions. I greatly look forward to experiencing it in full.

And speaking of artists growing and developing I'm elated to share with you the latest work from the scenes resident videographer Neros77. His work has been raised to even loftier levels than before with his video for Starforce's Summer Of 2085. The sands of time and oceans of space become the planes of an eternal existence, forever entwined in a story that traverses galaxies by seasons. This is the visualisation of this track done to absolute perfection.

That brings us to the end of another week full of good times and great rock'n'roll in the 80s inspired synth scene. I'll be back throughout next week with more rockin music to keep you rockin the 80s all the right ways. 'Till then stay 80s and keep on rockin.

Synthetix Weekend Update

As we moonwalk through October the new releases are coming thick and fast. Over the next couple of weeks there are some massive new release coming from many of the scenes more established producers so make sure you keep on rockin by Synthetix to keep up with all the hot 80s inspired synth action!

So let's start off with a preview from one of these upcoming blockbusters. Alpha Boy's got a hot new sound and a hot new album with Streets Are Hot. The compilation preview track has lots of signature Alpha Boy sounds, but theres a new personality hinted at through much of the previews. Due out next week I'll be sure to give it the full Synthetix treatment.

Brand new music from NeonFlashDrive up next! This producer's sound is gaining more personality with each release and his new soundtrack styled piece called Akira is full of 80s magic. The darker sounds of this piece are black as pitch, while the small eastern flourishes and spatial details engage the listener even more. Akira is also up for FREE download, so get on it asap!

Our next track was, unfortunately, from an unfinished project, but Grooveworthy has shared this awesome track out on soundcloud regardless. This homage to the high action theme track is a work of brilliance as it thunders through in a magically 80s way. Lets hope more music of this style comes out from this producer as this piece is definitely rockworthy.

Synth mastercraftsman Mitch Murder unleashed a scintillating new experience this week called Rush. This is the perfect title for this track as it is a fiery ball of energy that is being propelled at the speed of sound. The mood breakdown in the middle just goes further to prove this artists skill at arranging elements to perfection. Magnificent work once again.

A brand new act on the scene is Only You and their first song Secrets grabbed my attention this week and has never let go. This is a beautiful piece of emotive synth pop with a vibe that reminds me of many early 80s bands, but also combines a more mid 80s style vocal track. This combination is supremely rocking and is hopefuly a precursor to more music from Only You in the future.

Arc Neon's new track is settling into it's final diabolical transformation and is leaving only brutality in it's wake! At The Highways Of Madness is turbocharged darkness with a super hooky lead synth melody that will drive you over the edge. I think this will sound absolutely monstrous once mixed.

It just wouldn't feel like a Weekend Update without a new LA Dreams track. This producer's still releasing new tracks with ravenous fervour and it's getting hard to keep up! Victims was definitely my favourite piece of his released this week. It's got a lovely spatial quality that is uncomplex but supremely emotive. The flow is totally entrancing. LA Dreams has a new EP out soon, so I'll make sure Synthetix covers it upon it's release.

To finish of this week's Weekend Update we have a totally rockin video production from none other than Neros77 for Quasar's Shocking Facts. This is massively entertaining and proves to be the perfect video for The Robocop inspired track.

I hope this Weekend Update on Synthetix has kept your weekend rockin the 80s love and I look forward to sharing more with you over the coming week.
