Plug And Play Betamaxx's Swan Song

By James Mann

Hypnotic. Lush. Sublime. These words come to mind and even fall short when attempting to characterize the music of Betamaxx on paper. The compositions of this music wizard, who without reservation falls into the upper echelon of the scene, creates soundscapes so moving, so nostalgic, and so touching that his work falls into a category of its own. Betamaxx has been generating superb synth based compositions for years now, gracing listeners with his intuitive, thoughtful and dynamic tracks which cover and evoke such expansive ranges of emotions and talent. His latest release, Plug and Play, is a stunning piece of work, delving into the deepest corner of this musician's prodigious mind, and transcending the best synth based, retro themed tracks out there.

Through past albums such as the explosive debut release Legacy, to more current works including Interface and Sophisticated Technology, this artist has managed to pioneer and develop such a unique and  impressive sound with complexities in instrumentation and rhythms, while touching on multiple genres. His ability to retain that signature production and feel while growing and developing as an artist has kept listeners strapped in with headphones along for the sweet ride.

This last and final release for the Pittsburg native spans a wide array of gorgeous melodies and beats, putting this enchanter of arrangements in prime position to deliver his strongest and most impressive album yet. "With Plug & Play I essentially wanted to show what I'm capable of in terms of the different derivatives of synthwave music. I wanted to put my best foot forward with this release by picking from what I feel is the best I have to offer with this project."  In a producer laden world driven by plug-ins used to emulate instruments, Betamaxx has an arsenal of hardware synths he uses to create tracks, and the authenticity, thickness and richness of these sounds are verified through his exceptional final journey.

'Take Off' launches the album into full throttle, and transcends the listener directly into the world of Betamaxx. It's a beautiful and dark song, a delicate balance this artist has on lock with his proficiency in arrangements and musical sensibilities. That signature distant and pensive arpeggiation of lush synths stamp a familiar sound of his, while venturing into new territory with unapologetic freshness. Quickly the track escalates into a breakbeat, layering glassy melodies on top of rich, full bodied synths and drums to create a gorgeous soundscape that quickly fills the speakers, channeling the confidence and talent of this powerhouse. A great retro themed instrumental indeed.

There are times as an avid audiophile you crave to hear the right notes, the right progressions to satiate your ears. 'Integrated Circuitry' nails it, combining somber and lush chords to culminate in a sonic wall of pure Betamaxx bliss. A beautiful, pensive melody is laid out with care and a strong 4/4 beat carries the track, needless to say an emotional connection is achieved. I must interject here and say Betamaxx knows production. He also knows drums. The crafting of his sound is delicate and full of purpose, 'Integrated Circuitry' is no exception. I am reminded how well his instruments are mixed and mastered, particularly on this piece. One of my favorites on the album.

'Dreamer' featuring Rat Rios is a hauntingly beautiful track full of energy and emotion. The vocal accompaniment allows for a perfect fit, demonstrating another side of this artist who can create tracks that I dare say are club and radio worthy. A beautiful retro based/disco rhythm with sequenced synths carry the flowing notes of the Betamaxx machine to a dimension filled with light and wonder. There is a sense of sadness and emotion in the crystalline voice of Rat Rios that sends chills up the spine, blending into an immense track that is truly enjoyable. I visualize myself on a late Saturday night swaying on a packed dance floor, eyes closed with fractals of light streaking across my closed eyes while this gem plays on. Stunning track and without reservation one of the best on the album.

'Mechanized' is an incredibly thoughtful piece, with melodies that evoke memories of the NES/8 bit world, however with much greater sophistication. A driving rhythm lays out a platform that evolves into a world of full-bodied synths and possibilities that blend effortlessly. This track takes a more thematic approach, as I envision 80s technology and equipment being showcased in a commercial through montage fashion. The delight in Betamaxx tracks is allowing the listener to imagine and draw on any visual they want, as the music fits so well in different situations.

It's your first day of school. You walk through the hallway in unfamiliar territory amid a haze of sounds and activity, stopping to fidget with your new locker combination. You put your books away just as the girl from homeroom breezes by and flashes a smile in your direction. A step back into a simpler and more innocent time in life, 'Take me Back' is pure nostalgia and one of the greatest arrangements on the album. Growing up in the 80s, I instantly remember moments and memories I had shelved until hearing this piece; funny how the power of a particular synth sound and chord progression brings that all back. A true journey of bliss filled melodies, driving bass and drums that turn this into one of the most gorgeous retro-based tracks I've ever heard.

A calypso sounding synthesizer kicks off the next track, 'Life on the Grid', and develops into a breakbeat journey filled with pleasure inducing vibes, eventually turning into a sweet disco dance celebration. What a treat, as it's a collaboration with another synth master from Pennsylvania, the one and only Arcade High. Combining the two styles of these artists are effortless and sweet, as a bouncing complex baseline gives way to lush arrangements on top. 8-bit melodies blend in from Arcade High, reminding me of his classic 'One Year Ago'.

'Regeneration' is a turning point in Plug and Play. Betamaxx shifts gears and takes a fast turn into a ravaged, desolate landscape with the best imaginable soundtrack. An intense, driving bass coupled with an echoed vocal backdrop play into a track of monumental proportions. The synth lead in this is so strong and thematic, I can't help but wonder how deep the inspiration was behind this. The richness and layout of the notes and drums have such confidence, it's apparent to the listener this artist is master craft and has been creating music for years. Is that cowbell I hear? Perfect. Halfway through the track I'm blown to orbit with extremely detailed synth work that proves this man is not just chords, but a proficient machine set to destroy and claim a spot with one of the greatest tracks I have heard in the genre. Fantastic.

Sleek. Sexy. Smooth as ice. 'Disco Dust' is a track unlike one I've ever heard from Betamaxx. Lo-fi disco funk comes to mind, as a crawling bass and electro-house drum escort you into a late night club filled with dancers, dollar bills and shame. Talk box vocals from Mike McG creates a suave finesse that is so fitting. I really love this, as I stood up from my computer to test my strutting moves. Once again, the diversity of this artist is evident, the genres are crossed and still under the umbrella of the Betamaxx sound.

'Guided by Moonlight' is a sensual piece that builds on the familiar warm synth sounds of the 80s, gaining a nice momentum as it progresses. The allure is strong in this, as an interlude-esque melody enters and is quickly supported with an appropriate synth bass and drums, ramping up the energy into an outrun style track. Excellent driving tune, as the shimmering notes and rhythm block out anything else in the mind apart from the music. Classic Betamaxx sound, and check out the complex tom work in the bridge!

'Electric Cruise' is a hypnotic, vocoder adventure traversing a different side of Betamaxx. Deliberate and slower than his other tracks, this crafted composition blends warm synth sounds and even moog-oriented psychedelic melodies, taking the listener on a magnificent journey through several genres and decades. I really enjoyed this, as the placement and pacing fit perfectly on the album in addition to being a marvelous piece. I felt Tangerine Dream/Jarre melodies in this, and after asking Betamaxx about his influences, the response was fitting.  "…legends like Georgio Moroder, John Carpenter, and Tangerine Dream have been among a few of my favorite inspirational artists behind this project."

'Departure' is an awe-inspiring and aptly named track for the last segment of the Betamaxx journey, and what an astounding piece of work it is. The emotion spills through each note in this almost ambient/down tempo arrangement, carefully and considerately wrapping up a project that has been years in the making. Rich, deep synths cover a backdrop in earnest, while a post-rock guitar along the lines of Hammock blend together in a highly emotional manner. The realization that Betamaxx will be retired hits home.

Plug and Play is a remarkable album, and I would say without reservation it's a masterpiece in the Betamaxx collection. Exceptional arrangements, retro and future vibes, and astounding production value leave this as a chef d'oeuvre for this one man machine. Betamaxx delivers on all fronts and exceeds any expectations you may have had regarding his last release. It's rare to see an artist encapsulate and own a sound that offers variety, crossing genres and at the same time continuing to produce amazing music across such a dedicated  fan base. This artist's ability to paint the soundtrack to our lives, to our past, and to our future is a beautiful thing. Plug and Play is available here through Telefuture records in digital formats and limited edition cassette preorder. Plug and Play comes very, very, highly recommended through Synthetix.FM.

I have not yet delved into the departure of Betamaxx from our beloved scene. I wanted to hold off until the end of this review, and to be honest there isn't much "delving" to do. For several years this artist has not just been a force in the scope of retro based artists, but one of the most influential as well, having created and patented such a unique sound to share with all synth lovers and in their collections at home. The love and music he's created and shared with listeners has been immense. However, there are times when an artist feels they have outgrown a project and have to move on to other endeavors, not for the fans but most importantly for themselves.

"The end of the road is a very bittersweet feeling with Betamaxx. A part of me still really wants to produce this music, but at the same time i feel that it is time for me to move on to something different to grow as a musician. The fans, and friends i've met along the way have been amazing. The support for this project has grown more immensely than i would have ever thought possible."

Thank you Betamaxx. It's never good bye. It's see you later.

Time to get drifting and dreamy with the great new track from She Said (Judge Dredd) 'Sara'. The synthscape is alive with electrifying passages with a production that is raw and passionate. Haunting and stunning in it's delivery, an enlightening experience.

Robert Parker is quickly becoming one of my favourite new producers in the scene. His grasp on the subtleties of 80s sounds is incredibly tight and each new track I hear from him is even more inspirational than the last. 'Great Expectations' is currently available for FREE download too.

It's been a while since we've had some honest to goodness Ninja Synth on Synthetix.FM so it brings me great pleasure to share with you the latest tune from Danas Vision entitled 'Kung Fu Master'. This homage to the classic video game is rife with Eastern synth magic and martial arts thrills and spills. Currently available for FREE download.

Nearly a year's time has elapsed between track from Alexino on his soundcloud but it's definitely been worth the wait as his new piece, 'Under The Dome'. Reminiscent of the likes of Tommy in many respects this track keeps emotions deep and melodies rich with languid gait that feels like a slow motion embrace.

Waveshaper's got his action rockin with much power in his new track 'To The Top'. Huge melodies are built upon with tidal force, marching into new horizons with a single minded determination. Inspiring and uplifting this track is sure to take you over the top!

While Betamaxx was digging around in his vast collections of music he uncovered an older track previously unshared. He remedied this situation by uploading 'Heated' this week and making it available for FREE download. Totally rockin 80s vibes and Betamaxx magic out the ying yang on this gem.

Block35 is a new producer to Synthetix.FM of whom I know very little aside from the fact their new track is totally rockin to the max. 'Chasing Trams' evolves it's melody with delicate nuance into soaring dimensions of brilliance. This piece is thoroughly beautiful in it's presentation and tone and I encourage you to get out there and give some love to Block35. You can pick up a copy of this wonderful experience on the Block35 Bandcamp page here at a name-your-own-price point.

Pulse80 and Quasars have joined forces and created a spectacular new work entitled 'Invisible Meridians'. PH Groove keeps on rockin sensational Italo vibes in his killer new track 'Arcade Feel'. As is always the case with PH Groove's music the bassline is funky and the synths are sweltering in an epic tale of dancefloor passions. Infectiously structured for maximum groove penetration this piece is currently available for FREE download.

Taking Italo synthscapes right back to the classic sounds is the great new song from Blue Star Project 'Open Your Heart'. From the orchestral stabs to the classically delivered vocal this right on the mark for sparking of that Italo magic into a blaze of 80s magic. A Radio Edit as well a totally kick arse Extended Version are available at a name your-own-price point.

Kicking the drama into high gear is the killer new jam from Laurence McFunk: 'California Gasoline Commando'. Building like a storm this saga of good versus evil in the wastelands of tomorrow rocks harder than a melonfarmer in it's vast soundtrack odyssey. Available for FREE download currently too.

Any time is the right time for some sexxxy sax action and Super Vox's hot new 'Sax Theme' gives us lots to love. Tropical Italo vibes lead the way for the cool night time, with cool breezes coming in from the coast, buoyed by bouncing melodies and that sweet sax

Manolis continues to blow my mind and expand his horizons with every new track he shares and 'The Bait' continues this trend. Incredibly lush synthscapes and tightly packed details just brimming with glowing 80s love. Polished to a mirror chrome finish this track is k-rad to the max and is also available currently for FREE download to boot!

Pyramid Aeon is defining his own sound more and more as we travel with him on his 80s musical journey. 'Better Days' find his sound taking some very inspiring cues from modern and vintage elements to create something rather special. The piano refrain is one of the real highlights of the experience but the full excursion is massively rewarding. Available for FREE download via Pyramid Aeon's Bandcamp page here.

Another debut producer for this week's Weekend Update is Australia's own Kick Puncher with his brooding Dark Synth track 'Highway Knight'. This rocker certainly knows how to combine the magic of 70s horror soundtrack synth and heart pumping pulsations of 80s denominations.

Another hot collaboration this time with Tommy and Sally Shapiro rockin some intimate and delicate disco coloured synth pop magic. 'Why Did I Say Goodbye' has a fabulous air of 2010 about it's presence that is still intoxicating with the blend of old and new sounds always sounding fresh and vibrant.

Our video feature for this week's Weekend Update comes from Germany's Puls with their amazing new song 'Du Gehst'. These rockers are totally killing the 80s rock synth sound to the max and I'm sure your pulse will be racing in no time with this superb music video. You can download a copy of this kick arse song via their Facebook page here too. Many thanks to Action Jackson for enlightening me to the Puls magic!

That does it for another Weekend Update on Synthetix.FM, I hope you've found some great new music to make your weekend rock that 80s love just a little bit more. I'll be back during the week with more exciting music from the 80s inspired synth scene, 'til then stay 80s and keep on rockin.

Betamaxx Creates Sophisticated Technology

I do believe that it needs to be categorically stated that Betamaxx doesn't get enough love/respect/recognition/honour/accolades/virgin sacrifices/etc. This producer has released some wonderfully crafted 80s inspired synth over the last twelve months, beginning with his rockin debut EP Legacy which then lead into his totally kick arse first album Lost Formats. In turn, this lead to his next full length record, Interface, which came out in January this year.

All three of these previous releases are true vestiges of classic 80s synth love, and it became apparent that Betamaxx's multi faceted style was something that lent itself exceptionally well to the full length format. And like a bolt of lightning, Betamaxx has unleashed a brand new album experience entitled Sophisticated Technology seemingly out of nowhere.

The Betamaxx soundscape has elevated into spectacular new levels with this new album, its diversity and quality is something very special and through all the chapters contained on this album runs an energy signature that I now recognise as being pure Betamaxx.

The opening track of Sophisticated Technology is 'Breakthrough' (featuring the ever awesome Tommy). The music is instantly uplifting and full of the promises of a better future through technology and it's in this opening piece we get to feel the Betamaxx magic begin to grow and take over our imaginations. It's like Tommy opens the door and takes a bow as Betamaxx roars in, with engines pouring smoke and lights that blind and dazzle.

When the smoke clears the ambiance begins to groove and move with new purpose and electro funk of 'Dolby Dance' turns the heat up exponentially. This is really what I'm talking about with Betamaxx. This piece is classically 80s in it's gorgeous melodies and nuances but the modern lacquer that Betamaxx manages to liberally coat the soundscape with makes it sound fresh and brand new. The music rocks, innately, with a glowing 80s soul but always with a gleaming layer of 'now' in the mix.

Taking things into poppier modes we find 'Zenith', which brings back the superb guitars from the 'Dolby Dance' and constructs synth stratum around them. The mood is smooth as glass and twice as cool and every instrument keeps positivity the focus throughout. More romantic moods are opted for in the kick arse third track 'Maxximum' which adds synth romance and some more dramatic elements and then out of nowhere italo styled details begin to break the surface really invigorate.

Betamaxx has managed to keep his ideas simple and make them count in 'Sophisticated Technology'. Each track forms an idea and tells it's story in a refreshingly distinct way. As 'Maxximum' fades out and the frenetically fast paced 'Redlining 6th' kicks in you really begin to get sucked into the instant attraction and immediate gratification of what is on offer. 'Redlining 6th' is so beautifully constructed and executed that it blows my mind each time I hear it. The arrangements and melodies are just flawless and when your excitement gets to the point of no return you find the fade out's going to save you. Like Frankie said, Relax. Theres plenty more excitement to come.

Through the interlude of 'Expensive Taste' Betamaxx teases some more ambiant ideas, but just can't resist the urge to rock it and keep the energy blazing with vigour. This alluring piece is then succeeded by the much more, initially, restrained 'Inside Information' which forms an intriguing counter point to the previous tracks. The melodies are pointed and quizzical, but the midpoint change into a sombre piano based suite is something most certainly out of left field that had me mesmerised for it's duration.

Moonwalking into the next chapter we find Mike McG collaborating with Betamaxx on the totally kick arse synthscapade 'Reel To Real'. The sounds and structures are chrome polished in this track and it evolves at a wonderfully paced canter to allow all avenues to be explored and exploited. The Betamaxx brand of electro funk is fast becoming one of my favourites, and is right up there with the best from Garth Knight and 80s Stallone.

Betamaxx takes on some more experimental tones in his 'Chrominance' track which is chapter nine on the album. The melodies are far more ethereal are allowed to ride the fast paced percussion with their own wistful presence. They loop, fade in, fade out, collapse back on themselves and then unite sometimes all at once, but the powerhouse rhythm section ensures there is always a forward momentum and doesn't allow the feelings to dissolve into the ether. I found this track very surprising, and equally engaging and this is in no small part due to it's perfect placement in the track order.

But darker passages of acute madness are fostered and allowed to create their own diabolical constructs in the next track, 'La Cabane Noir'. To usher the shadows in with maximum fear is, of course, the one and only Perturbator whom Betamaxx has enlisted to perform the more depraved elements. The combination of talents provides for a superbly ominous track that still retains the Betamaxx charms and prefers to teeter on the edge of Hell as opposed to diving in head first.

The energies turn positively neon in the rockin the max, italo flavoured 'Memorex Discotheque'. Sounds move salaciously and dance with carnal opulence upon a dance floor that is fuelled by pure Betamaxx alchemy. The rising build and constant free flowing melodies are absolutely rockin to the max in this piece and it's uncomplicated and forthright delivery gives it a full force punch that is felt deeply.

The second last piece on the album, 'New Horizons' feels like a segue between dimensions for Betamaxx. The oddly timed, almost Asiatic, melodies intimate something timeless and majestic but there is also a frailty to them. They hang in the air like gossamer threads, our understanding is fleeting but the beauty is undeniable. This piece leads into the final chapter of Sophisticated Technology, the poignant and delicate 'Remembrance'. As an epitaph to the album it speaks solemnly but with much love and tenderness. Credits roll on this action packed epic, and our introspection and contentment is only broken by the sound of applause.

Sophisticated Technology is so full of totally rockin music that it takes a good half dozen listens to it in it's entirety to get the full picture. More than anything else, this record shines as an unbroken experience. Not that this is a concept album who's narrative requires a start-to-finish listen but instead every track is given a place a time to shine on Sophisticated Technology in a way that demands your attention and keeps you hanging out for the next track. The arranging of these chapters and craftsmanship in the overall writing is Betamaxx's real forte and throughout the record his creations inspire and enlighten the listener constantly.

Telefuture Records presents Betamaxx's Sophisticated Technology album on their Bandcamp page here. This album is most deserving of your love and attention, as is Betamaxx himself, as he displays through every second of this record his passion and understanding of what makes 80s synth rock. Synthetix.FM very highly recommends this album and hopes that Betamaxx is no longer the Rodney Dangerfield of 80s inspired synth producers and gets the respect he thoroughly deserves.

Synthetix Weekend Update

Before we get to this week's Weekend Update on Synthetix.FM I first wanted to pay special attention to the incredible new compilation from Werkstatt Recordings: Synth City. This THIRTY track compilation is jam packed with 80s synth superstars and all the tracks are EXCLUSIVE to this release!

It's an amazing reflection of the diverse talent in the scene and when brought together in this format makes for an awe inspiring monolith of synth rhapsody. Garth Knight, 80s Stallone, Perturbator, LA Dreams, DJ Ten, Camille R, Vincenzo Salvia, Ace Attack, Protector 101 and Embryonik are just some of the producers included.

Synthetix.FM doesn't review compilations, but I always have a link to the most current and rockin one on the right hand side bar, so make sure you get this incredible, and FREE, compilation presented by the wonderful Werkstatt Recordings as soon as possible.

Now, lets ROCK with the Synthetix Weekend Update!

First up we have sort of reissue from Corvallis. 'Pantera' was originally released on an EP last year but Corvallis has seen fit to rerelease it as a single.  It's dark and dangerous and has an almost impossibly long lead in before it hits, but the anticipation built is absolutely rockin. The highly effect treated vocal adds a huge amount of haunting mysticism to the experience.

Ogre Sound has been on the Synthetix.FM radar for quite a while now, and his album 194 from last year provided some marvellous soundtrack synth flavoured experiences. His next release, 'Calico Brown' has been directly inspired by the ever inspirational TV series Miami Vice and from this sampler he's really rockin all the right ways. Greatly looking forward to the full release on the 20th of May.

SPF5Ø is back with his horror inspired dark synth mayhem once again with a new track delightfully titled 'Bitches Blood'. The soundscape is torn asunder with synth violence that borders on an industrial style, the layering towards the end becomes very intense. Available currently for FREE download.

Starion's brand of catchy disco synth has resurfaced with this marvellous slice of italo love called 'Theme From Ferranti'. It's the perfect blend of spatial atmospherics and catchy melodies and it's pace allows for the perfect ambiance.

Keeping the italo golden is Lost Year's new track 'Tear'. The Lost Years sound is one of my favourites in the scene and this piece really displays the genius of this producer's style. The arrangements are absolutely flawless with just the right emphasis on everything to create the perfect tonal balance. 'Tear' is up to Version 2 already, it's evolution should provide much entertainment.

Laurence McFunk has turned the drama up to dangerous levels with his epic new piece 'Turn In Your Badge'. This feels so authentic as a piece of high tension 80s soundtrack work that if I close my eyes I can visualise the scene instantly. Even as a short piece, this is right on point and also available for FREE download.

Nite Sprite is back with a vengeance with his rockin new track 'Strut'. The energy of this builds with pure magic and drops like a metric tonne of rad. The funky arrangements are contrasted with darker, menacing details but then evolve into a synthscape full of beauty and clarity. This track is available for purchase on iTunes here.

If you don't know who Visage are you need to stop reading this right now and go and educate yourself on their seminal music from dawn of the new romantic age. Their triumphant return is only weeks away and they're teasing the full album release with previews of each song leading up the album launch  on the 20th of May. Their understanding of new and classic sounds has resulted in a wonderfully 80s soundscape laced with just the right amount of modernity. 'Never Enough' is one of the songs I'm most looking forward to, but I'll be sure to give the record the full Synthetix.FM treatment upon it's release.

I'm finding Dr Pecco to be one of the most exciting new talents in the 80s inspired synth scene, he manages to instill a very vital and vibrant energy in his music and with this short teaser for his next EP it's sounding like he's refining his sound even further. Looking forward to this release immensely.

Electric Disection is exciting talent that keeps bringing the radness to the masses and his new piece 'Semblance Of A New World' is a delightfully introspective piece with smooth synth melodies that are uplifting and full of hope. The lead melodies provide and excellent counter argument with their pointed questioning, adding even more interesting layers. This is available for FREE download currently, also.

PH Groove is back and rockin hard with his new opus 'Witness This'. Rhythms as set to maximum excitement and the unrelenting pace builds to an explosion of 80s synth action. PH Groove also shared another excellent track this week in 'She Loves Dancing' and both are currently available as FREE downloads.

To mark his achievement of 6000 followers on soundcloud Mitch Murder has graciously shared a gorgeous new excursion called 'Mirage' as a FREE download. This track continues Mitch Murder's love affair with Pino Palladino styled basslines and winds things back to languid pace allowing for the subtlety of the soundscapes to have their magic and wonder fully appreciated.

A new producer of rockin 80s synth, introduced to me by the totally kick arse duo Stellar Dreams, is Kid Flash. His new track 'Nascar' uses lots of high energy synths and liberal samples from Days of Thunder to create a totally kick arse synth ride that's got equal doses of passion and action. This is another track available currently for FREE download.

After their very disappointing release (from my perspective) 1991, Tesla Boy have returned to form with the much more 80s sounding song 'M.C.H.T.E'. Once again they've shown why they're so good at rockin the 80s sounds and emotions with totally electrifying energy and superb lyrical themes.

Perturbator's rockin some massive sounds with the preview to his next EP 'Sexualizer'. This five track release is sounding very, very impressive from these preview tracks. The opening song featuring Adam 'Le Cassette' McNab on vocals is something I found jaw dropping and the other four experiences all hint at even more excitement courtesy of one of the scenes premier producers.

Sunglasses Kid is fast becoming one of my favourite composers of truly authentic 80s inspired synth music. Each new track he shares presents a boldly crystalline vision of true 80s sounds and emotions. His new track 'Miami Lover' distills this down to an even richer purity, the sax, synth and percussion are as harmonious as they are entrancing. A glorious example of total 80s nostalgia. This is available for purchase from his Bandcamp page here.

Mulperi's new track 'Friends' caught my attention with his somber tones and very intimate melodies. Although not strictly 80s in it's personality there is an 80s soul that colours the emotions and allows for some very beautiful soundscapes to emerge. Another track currently available for FREE download.

Bringing the 80s back in no uncertain terms is the new track from Betamaxx 'Redlining 6th'. This high energy OutRun adventure is going to be the opening intro to his next album release. The synths are on fire throughout this track and the break neck pace is thoroughly invigorating.

Although only forty six seconds in length this new teaser from Grooveworthy was something I just had to share. 'Information Breakdown' has one of the most powerful percussive tracks I'm yet to experience and builds to a point that for now shall remain a mystery. This track is going to be epic.

On the cusp of releasing their next odyssey, 'Bloodsport 2092', Arc Neon have re-released their Wet Dreams EP in a special edition format with seven extra tracks. This EP was already a totally rockin release (reviewed on Synthetix.FM here) and this expanded release is something everyone should support, especially at it's 'Name Your Own Price' price point.

And finally we have a preview for the debut EP from Lazerspek courtesy of Future City Records. This three track affair promises to be very interesting based on this producers previous sounds and his own brand of new and old sounds should make for riveting synthual experience.

That does us for another Weekend Update on Synthetix.FM. Next week will be another action packed one with a hot batch of 80s inspired synth releases to review and share with you so until then, stay 80s and keep on rockin.

Synthetix Weekend Update

I hope everyone's recovered from the emotional overdose of So Real by now, I believe I can now move on to more music myself after this this song has so deeply affected me. Moving into May the big releases keep on pumping. With a bunch of killer new EP's from Tommy, Gost, Patrick Baker, Vercetti Technicolor and Arc Neon plus many others, it's going to be another great month to be a fan of 80s inspired synth music. But now it's time to rock the past week in the scene with the all new Synthetix Weekend Update!

First up is a smoothly serenely piece of funky fried synth gold from Betamaxx. Dolby Dance works is as slick as is gets with the perfect blend of sounds and a structure that feels light and breezy. The huge range of instruments just engages even further. Definitely an evolutionary step in the Betamaxx journey.

A new artist I discovered courtesy of the Synthetix Facebook group is SPF5Ø. This dabbler in the darkened arts of 80s horror synth has come up with something rather special in his new track Love Crime. The intensity of the terror with is unrelenting with a cacophonous atmosphere that intensifies the brutality. Currently available for FREE download.

Alpha Boy hit close to home with his release which is dedicated to his father. Axel Theme is a poignant at intimate piece which combines the Alpha Boy trademark sounds in a more languid setting. It's obvious this track is very special to the composer and the delicacy at which he handle the melodies is wondrous to behold.

New rockers Slow Knights came into my world this week courtesy of the always delightful Patrick Baker and although their tracks have been up on soundcloud for a month or so I felt they definitely deserved some love on Synthetix.FM. The Slow Knights sound is reminiscent of classic mid 80s synth funk pop with a transatlantic aura about their sounds. There's an uplifting familiarity to their music that I absolutely adore, lets hope they've got some official releases planned soon.

Amping up the funk even more is the totally rockin new Jupiter Gang track Planet Lazerium. The Jupiter Gang have been upping the production rate quite a bit of late so I hope this means there'll be a release of some sorts soon, but for now this is available for FREE download, so get your own slice of sweet 80s funk pie courtesy of Jupiter Gang now.

The return of Night Sprite with a short preview for his next release (also due out in May) was massively exciting. This short video speaks volumes and certainly piques my interest in where the next Night Sprite adventure will  be going. I'll be sure to cover this album upon it's release.

Time to get your italo trousers on with James Baker's upbeat new single Voyage. The authenticity of the sounds and melodies work together in a very magical way throughout, totally infectious from beginning to end. Also available for FREE download currently.

Babylon 86 are certainly rockin all the right ways and their new track Teenage Breeze encapsulates a galaxy of 80s sounds and moods into one beautiful adventure. It builds to perfection with an action driven synth romance style that I truly love. Another track that's available for FREE download.

Some new funk pop rockers on the scene are Black Forest Ghetto. This duo is finding their 80s soul and have released a new track to denote this direct called Purest N.G.T. These guys have a really energetic live sound and I love the girls vocal style, it befits the personality of the music perfectly. I'll be following Black Forest Ghetto with much interest in the future as this song is very promising.

Electric Dissection's taken his sound into a delicately intimate dimension with his release Becky (The Girl With Autumn Leafed Hair). Melodies are haunting but the mood is kept light and positive in swirling synthscape of sparkling emotions. A genuinely beautiful piece of music, which is also available for FREE download currently.

Sunglasses Kid rocked my world to the foundations this week, his blend of authentic sounds and deep passion for the 80s has given his music a superb tone and atmosphere. My 80s Romance is the perfect introduction to this artist and really displays his understanding of synth romance music. Many, many thanks the fellow synthficionado Jarred Hageman for enlightening me to this producer.

Zombie Hyperdrive has exploded onto this scene with his own blend of soundtrack synth stylings that really caught my attention. Skylight is a true epic of stupendous power and drama. The Carpenter-esque bassline leads into smooth synth melodies and highlighted by high energy guitars. Massive in scope, this composition is totally bitchen to the max.

The final stop off in this week's tour around the 80s synth scene comes courtesy of Mitch Murder and his new piece High Performance. Mitch's adventures into the avant garde continue with his most 'fusion' sounding track yet. The energies spike and fall with total precision and the music takes on a really cool 'live-jam' kind of air towards the mid section and beyond. Beautifully orchestrated from beginning to end.

The wraps it up for another Weekend Update on Synthetix.FM. I'll be back to normally scheduled programming throughout the week ahead with more gems from the 80s inspired synth scene. 'Til then stay 80s and keep on rockin.

Synthetix Weekend Update

The storm of releases keeps building on the horizon as we get closer to the end of March, and already we're feeling the first splashes of rain on our skin before the torrential downpour of music engulfs all in it's path. Let us enjoy this week's Weekend Update with the gentle breeze and mild precipitation before the storm of rockin new releases hits.

Vector Hold keeps on rockin hard and his new track Deep Undercover 1985 is a totally rad Faltermeyer-esque piece of stealthy nocturnal work that is full of danger around every shadowed corner. Be sure to grab a copy of this as it's currently available for FREE download.

Neon Workout is kicking mucho derriere with a new jam called Don't Cry Tonight. This producer varies his styles for nearly each new track but there is always the 80s love hiding beneath the modern veneer. This new track is a superb piece of crossover with a modern arrangement combined with a great deal of 80s love in the melodies. Also available right now for FREE download!

Amazing Police is fast becoming a genuine force to be reckoned with in the 80s inspired synth scene. After the stunning White Tape and Moroder-Einstein Theorem tracks he's now released the jaw-droppingly epic Circa 1984. Beautifully arranged elements and sounds combine in a vista of totally entrancing synth work. Shades of StarDonE are present in the experience too, which only adds to the wonder.

Another producer who's craft is being honed very nicely is Vestron Vulture. His new track, Beach Babes From Beyond, is totally rockin mix of italo and videogame sounds that are full of energy and authentic melodies. Vestron Vulture's sounds are distilling into an individualised mixture of influences
that are really demanding one's attention. Be sure to download it while it's still FREE.

The totally rock hard Betamaxx is releasing a steady stream of radical 80s sounds through 2013 and his new adventure, Maxximum is yet another killer track. I love the energy of this, the synth leads are dazzling in delivery and the percussion is a cacophony of stunning 80s love.

Electric Disection's brand of soundtrack styled synth work is expanding into new colours and shapes with his latest work, the aptly titled, Metamorphosis. The melodies are still of a deliberately paced soundtrack nature but the style has been engineered with a more energetic percussive track. I adore how this piece evolves and forms it's own destiny. Beautiful music, that is currently available for FREE download as well.

Flash Arnold's totally killing it with his marvellously inspired track Dorsia. American Psycho is one of my favourite comedies of all time and whenever samples are used from it I can't help but fall in love with the music as well. Flash Arnold once again proves he's one of the true 'leaders of the new school' with a catchy and perfectly arranged experience in quality 80s sounds.

A short little gem from Mulperi caught my attention this week. Entitled Time, and only shared in a short preview format this track is just stunning in it's staccato timing and synth brilliance. The tones and textures of this track are absolutely rockin to the max, I can't wait for the full version, that's for sure.

Synth terror merchant, Gost, unleashed an amazing new work in the field of dark synth brutality with the enigmatically titled piece 4th. The music is the essence of darkness with a churning bassline and violent orchestral stabs that go straight for the vital organs. Frightening beyond your worst nightmares and terrifying beyond the harshest realities!

Moving into brighter atmospheres is marvellous new track from Droid Bishop titled Galaxy:Unknown.
This composition is full of light and emotion and introspective melodies that ethereally manifest before the listener. Incredibly beautiful in arrangement and execution. Many thanks to Tommy for discovering and sharing this exciting new producer and be sure to grab your own copy of this grandiose work while it's up on soundcloud for FREE download.

Another FREE track to make sure you add to your collection is the new single from Let Em Riot: I Know. Let Em Riot's sounds lean more towards modern arrangements and sounds but a soul of the 80s beats beneath the current trappings. This piece of glossy synth pop is definitely anchored in the 80s and synths work throughout the song majestically.

Alpha Boy has taken off to the stars with his new track Sound Trek. This sci fi flavoured journey adds are wonderful new lustre to the Alpha Boy sound with an undeniable space-disco thematic that is very engaging. I love the aesthetic of this piece and I hope the stars prove to be a  destination in the future for Alpha Boy.

Jaypeau and Toeknee are fast becoming another force to be reckoned with the 80s inspired synth scene. Their amazing track Thrasher has a new companion with Blood Drops. There's a great deal going on with this track that comes out over multiple listens. The arrangements are packed with details and nuances that create a crescendo of uplifting magic. I predict that 2013 is going to be a monster year for these guys.

On the cusp of releasing his massively promising new High Fidelity EP in April, Tommy has shared a stand alone track in preparation. Odyssée is a smoothly entrancing ambient work that bends and morphs with a light and colour all it's own. Beautiful in melody and languid in pace the music's skewed pitch is as inquisitive as it is engaging. Also currently available for FREE download, so grab it while you can.

That wraps it up for another rockin Weekend Update on Synthetix.FM. I look forward to spending more quality time with you next week as we explore more of the wonderful music in the 80s inspired synth scene. 'Til then, stay 80s and keep on rockin.

Synthetix Weekend Update

Another week in the 80s inspired synth scene has come and gone and there's been some totally rockin new tunes surfacing. Also, on the horizon, a storm is brewing. I can feel a great power in the distance as new release after new release gets announced, all with the end of the month as their window of being unleashed. I foresee a perfect storm of 80s inspired synth music rain down from the heavens soon and Synthetix.FM will be there to make sure you've got some shelter when all else becomes chaos.

For now, lets get rockin with the most arse kicking new tunes in the Synthetix Weekend Update.

First off, we have the triumphant return of Adeyhawke after his absence for six months. This new track, Storm Runner, is a powerful mix of old and new with some high energy glitch work. The rawness of this piece is contrasted by the luscious 80s synths making for a totally rad combination of modern and classic sounds.

Some rockin new talent in the form of Qback came into view this week with his delightful Kimelops track. This smooth piece of dreamy synth love is kept clean and uncomplicated but still builds very nicely. The main synth lead that runs through the back half is totally rockin. Here's hoping to more Qback action in the future. Grab this while it's up for FREE download while you can.

Highway Superstar keeps on bringing out the big guns with every new track and he's really outdone himself on his new experience Boardwalk Sunset. Tropical heat and scintillating synths are the order of the day as bass lines roll with breakers and synths meet the setting sun with the rising moon. Totally magical.

Taking the night to levels of dramatic action is the Laurence McFunk venture: What Do You Do In Chinatown. The sounds are crisp and detailed while arrangements are maximised for danger and excitement. This feels like a soundtrack to some kind of mix of Big Trouble In Little China and Double Dragon, which is definitely a recipe rockin' good times. Download it for FREE while you can!

Out now on Mullet Records is a totally killer new two track EP from Casio Social Club called Little Luv. This is some exceptionally funky 80s synth magic right here with a few little modern touches and classic samples worked in for good measure. Both mixes Little Luv rock super hard with 80s love colouring the soundscape in a rainbow of neon.

Something spectacular from Mootbooxle was released this week with his stunning Main Title from Serrated Blade 2: Slice Of Death. This is some prime grade Ninja Synth with totally rockin guitars and suspenseful arrangements engineered for maximum atmosphere. I absolutely love how this piece evolves and hope it's the first of many using this theme. Download this track fro FREE while can and thanks very much to Kevin Funderburk for the heads up this track.

Garth Knight continues his sweaty and torrid love affair with 80s funk with his latest sordid escapade Lost In The Music. This is positively dripping with aural sexuality and raw animal power. Garth's really  nailing this style of late and each new funk experience adds even more delectable nuances to the music.

Final DJs and Gin Joints have joined forces for the new City Nights EP. The minimix preview released this week is full of wonderful sounds and classic Final DJs' arrangements. As with all Final DJs music there's a nice balance of 80s and modern sounds, but there are definitely some much more 80s sounding pieces on here than others from what this minimix delivers. The EP is due out on the 26th of March, right in the eye of the storm!

The always enthralling Betamaxx released another gem of total rockin 80s gold under the title of Nights Like This. The energy of this song is just so magical, the sounds traverse the spectrum of 80s influences while still keeping the piece on the rails, all be it at full speed around the dangerous curves of mountainous synthscapes. Betamaxx's sounds are really evolving beautifully and this song is definitely up there with the best of his work.

Another composer whom is always upping the ante is Action Jackson. His wonderful track called Start is an absolutely stunning piece of melodic synth love that is full of emotion and delivered with stupendous drama. I love the tones and textures of this piece, it really typifies Action Jackson's melody style and layering.

Lastly for this week's Weekend Update we have promising new preview for the new Make Up And Vanity Set record. Due out on the 28th of March this new record should prove very entertaining. I was a massive fan of their work released last year and although the previews for this new release haven't grabbed me as yet I can't help but feel huge levels of excitement for this new release. The preview video is sure to give everyone Make Up And Vanity Set fever for sure. We haven't got long to wait!

Makeup and Vanity Set "7.25.2148" Teaser from Telefuture on Vimeo.

That does us for another week of good times and great rock'n'roll on Synthetix.FM, I'll be back soon with more hot music from the 80s inspired synth scene imminently.
'Til then, stay 80s and keep on rockin!

Interface With Betamaxx

Even though it's only the later part of January, I'm beginning to notice a trend in the batch of releases that have surfaced this year. In nearly everything I'm hearing from producers who debuted last year I can feel a development and maturing of sounds and ideas. One only has to look back to some of the early releases from last year to a producer's latest track to hear this, it's something that should happen of course, but it's something that is now becoming much more persistant.

The 80s inspired synth scene is a microcosm of a microcosm. The nature of genre specific music is that it carries the traits of the genre throughout, but it's these perceived traits that are now blossoming and growing into forms still defined by their source but also exploring new ideas, methods and formulations. Like all music there is going to be a natural evolution and the scene is currently populated with producers expanding beyond their safe zones and taking risks they weren't in 2012. The artist that attempts to mark their own individual sound is one that will flourish in 2013, whereas those that stick to the base specifics will, I believe, become lost amid the other soundalikes.

It's only when Lost Formats came out in October last year that I realised how firm Betamaxx's grip is on what makes 80s synth great. Lost Formats, reviewed on Synthetix here, cemented this producer's sound in my mind. Being able to listen to essentially a whole year of Betamaxx in one place displayed this to me this very succinctly. This release really made me start to pay a great deal more attention to Betamaxx and in his new album I feel my attention is well and truly rivetted to the Betamaxx experience.

Interface allows the listener to drink in beautiful neon atmospheres of spacious synth sounds and finely crafted melodies. The diversity represented on this album is stunning, so many different styles are explored but the quality of the experience remains very high throughout. As Lost Formats showed much dabbling in the classic 80s styles, Interface takes this smorgasboard of synth delicacies to even higher gourmet levels with delights that fill the senses and inspire the imagination.

The album never feels like a ragtag group of musical experiments though, no. It feels carefully planned and conceived with the goal to make the Betamaxx sound eminate throughout the eleven tracks with a resounding presence and energy all it's own. Almost every single sub-genre of 80s inspired synth is present in Interface. The romance of the 80s juxtaposed with drama and electro action, soulful soundtrack moods contrasted by energized italo funk. It's all in here, and it all feels right at home.

The instruments used on this record are some of Interface's most impressive features. Synth sounds are wonderfully developed with gorgeous tonal qualities, as one would expect, but the cast other sounds on the album are what makes the musical atmosphere really come into it's own. The depth of percussion is superb, powerful snares and crisp details fill the sound stage while the bass lines and choices for their sounds are astonishingly refreshing. These ingredients mix and combine in each track making for a tasty and exciting treat in every single morsel of every course.

As the album takes on the many flavours and dimensions of the 80s one begins to feel the Betamaxx soul in each track. Recurring nuances and arrangements that sound brand new, soundscapes that one initially feels familiar with become unrecognisable and invigorating in their freshness. The moods of each vignette never feel like false but instead have a clean sincerity in absolutely every second of Interface's duration. Some of these experiences, however, feel a little truncated with fade outs that seem to come all too soon when they initially promised so much more. Most of these are designated as interludes, but one can't help but think they to deserved as much presence as the other set pieces.

It's records like Interface that are going to raise the bar for every producer of 80s inspired synth music. The fear of genre-stagnation becomes a non sequitor as the creative forces in producer's such as Betamaxx are currently gathering tidal strength in making exciting, authentic and inspiring new musical experiences. I hope Interface is a shining example of what's to come in 2013, as the sky really seems the limit, but the stars feel like the destination.

Interface is available on Betamaxx's Bandcamp here and comes thoroughly recommended as a wonderfully engaging album of quality 80s synth experiences from Synthetix.

Weekend Update Blockbuster Part 2

Here we go with the second part of the Weekend Update Blockbuster! This will bring Synthetix reasonably up to date with the happenings in the 80s inspired synth scene over the holiday period, there are a few releases I've not yet explored on Synthetix that will be coming up over the next couple of weeks too.

Crank up the volume and set your energy levels to maximum rocking as we blast into the synthosphere!

First up is a spectacular new adventure from Betamaxx. Over the course of 2012 Betamxx released some superb music and as he rocks in to 2013 it looks like he's kicking things up a notch. This first cut of East Coast Summers is a thrill ride of high energy synth melodies and driving drums sure to send your soul yearning for summer days and neon nights.

Evanton's fast becoming a mainstay of Synthetix with every new release being an affair to remember. Their latest EP LA Story is even more beautifully conceived synth funk and comes highly recommeneded. The second track off LA Story, Run!, is yet more solid musical gold from Evanton.

Taking off into new galactic dimensions is Starforce's new composition Cosmic Voyage. I think this is the first time I've has a father and son made track on Synthetix and I hope it's not the last. This is beautifully written soundtrack space synth music that makes me long for the full length Starforce album. Omniversal Oscillations is due out soon on Aphasia Records and I'll be sure to give it deserving attention on Synthetix upon it's release.

Andy Fink's shared an exciting new preview track on his soundcloud called Dynasty. The bassline in this track is totally rockin and the piece has a bent/off kilter mood that is very engaging. As the track evolves I hope it keeps this personality and takes things even further into the unknown.

It's time for some quality space italo now with Spacious Sweeps new track, Black Ops. This has to be the most ambient italo I've ever heard. The melodies and arrangements are totally rockin the pure italo vibe, but in this context of being slowed down and given huge spatial qualities makes for a wonderful soundscape.

While we're sailing in the italo galaxy we should stop in Flashback Records new release from the aptly named Italove in Follow Me To Mexico. Due out on January 18 this is a monstrously authentic italo styled song of the 1987-88 vintage that is full of energy and passion. Even this short preview is totally kick arse, I'll be sure to follow up on this EP upon it's impending release.

Photosynthesi continues to make positive impressions  with each new track this Italian producer releases. The emotional depth of his track White is fathomless and the funk bass break down adds yet another dimension to an already rivetting experience. This track is featured on Side B of the latest  Synthetix Mixtape and is a true celebration of the wonder and magic of 80s inspired synth music.

To finish up this second half of the Weekend Update Blockbuster we have the powerful new track from Synthaesthete. The deliberate pace of this juggernaut of synthual energies is magnificent to behold. The drum track in this is exceptionally done, exhibiting raw power and a dynamic that is masterfully executed.

That does us for the two part Weekend Blockbuster on Synthetix, but I'll be returning tomorrow with a super hard rockin 20/80s and covering a some supremely high calibre releases throughout the week so stay 80s and keep on rockin!

Synthetix Weekend Update

We're into the Festive Season now, and 80s synth music is always the best soundtrack to this time year. Whether you're watching the snow fall or beachside in the sunshine let's rock those feelings of the Season with this week's Weekend Update on Synthetix.

First up is a beautiful tribute to everyone's favourite Power Ranger, Kimberly's Theme. The synths are smooth and energetic and the mood is pure synth romance. A sterling effort from NeonFlashDrive, and it's greatly appreciated this is currently available for FREE download.

Something darker now, but with no less passsion. Nightcrawler's new song featuring SIMØNE is titled Metropolis, and even though the name inspires thoughts of vastness and space the song presents a much more intimate experience. The melancholic vocal track is wonderfully haunting and the music inspires even more depth of emotion.

Kid Machine's released an excellent cover of Garrasco's Love Sex For Sale. The original is seminal italo disco synth from 86 and Kid Machine's version is a great homage. Theres is a more deliberately paced feel to Kid Machines revision, losing some of the lightness and bringing in some more drama.

Another killler track from Betamaxx surfaced this week in Only In Movies. The Betamaxx style is one of my favourites as he manages to always get the energies of the melody and percussion perfectly matched. This track is testament to that as the excitement level is set to fever pitch throughout.

Someone new on the scene is one N C Holdsworth. His sounds lean towards the atmospheric/soundtrack synth styles but incorporating some beautiful progressive touches too. This piece entitled Orsus is full of promise as it swells with musical emotion. The vocals and guitars in the last act are truly beautiful to behold.

Staying with this mood lets move on to Jaypeau's new piece They're Here. This is apparently to be used as an album intro, which I hope means theres a full length release in the offing from this producer. If this intro is anything to go buy we're certainly in for a majestic experience indeed.

Another cover to enjoy now, this time from the always enigmatic Lost Years. His newest venture this week is an excellent cover of Sferro's New Output. This track has been one of my 'All Time' favourites from the new generation of synth producers and Lost Year's has taken this track and made it his own. I must say I still prefer the original, but this is a stellar piece of work that breathes new life into New Output.

New talent from Russia now with Ezavskih's new experience The Navigator. This is a very spactial excursion in cosmic sountrack synth that has a wonderful ethereal quality to it. The lead synths are exceptionally crafted and full of presence. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more from Ezavskih in the future.

Our last adventure into the dimensions of 80s inspired synth is a special new experience from the inimitable Mitch Murder. Entitled Medley For Science this track is Mitch's homage to the leaders of the scientific community. The sample work is wholly authentic to the 80s and the heavily accented Mitch Murder style blends magically with the chrome dipped synth melodies. This track works as the perfect companion piece to In The News from the Current Events album.

As the final refrains of Medley For Science fade out I'll bid you all adieu until the next time we get together for some good times and great rock'n'roll on Synthetix next week.

Synthetix Weekend Update

It's time for another monster Weekend Update on Synthetix, so lets get rockin' with zero delay!

First up is a sneak peek album teaser from the enigmatic Betamaxx. This two minute snippet of absolutely stunning synth romance bodes very well for his next release. Such beautifully constructed melodies and sounds make this something I'm champing at the bit for.

Photosynthesi got chilled and stirred with his new track Winter Nights. Photosynthesi is yet to release a piece of music I don't love, Winter Nights continues this trend with sheer, uplifiting melodies perched astride perfectly measured percussion.

Continuing down the steamy side of synth soundscapes is the new gem from Prof. Zonic Zynth. His new track Turning Point is highly atmospheric, forgoing his usual funk odysseys in favour of a midnight rendezvous where danger and lust walk hand in hand beneath a starlight sky.

Malbu B's upcoming releases have been teased with a fourway preview. The moods are introspective and coloured with autumnal shades but still enriched by much of the Malibu B magic we know and love. I'm greatly looking forward to experiencing each of this tracks in their fullest capacity.

Keeping that introspective and comtemplative mood rockin on we got a killer new track from FlashBoy this week in Eclipse. This is another rousing work that builds into soaring magnificence. It's been a quite time for FlashBoy, musically,  of late, I'm hoping this is a triumphant return with more FlashBoy experiences in the pipeline.

Brand new music from Arcade High next! City Lights brings a sparkling and energetic experience with a dash of the classic Arcade High 80s video game soundtrack personality for that zesty taste sensation we all love. This is available for FREE download so get on it right now!

I have so many favourite tracks by LA Dreams I've begun to lose count, but his new experience entitled Highschool DreamGirl is instantly in my Top 5. This positively glowing work of exemplary synth romance is masterfully constructed and purely uplifting to experience. Truly amazing.

Adding a dash of disco to the proceedings this week is a new track from Box Of Wolves called Swim. Lots of swelling 80s sounds accompany a dramatic beat while melodies cascade through through a sun drenched seascape. This is also available for FREE download to fully enhance your weekend experience.

The final installment of rockin 80s synth action comes to us in the form a totally killer new preview video for Vincenzo Salvia's Nostalgia EP. Due out on Decemeber 4th this promises more emotive and enlightening experiences in quality synth music from one of Synthetix favourite new producers.

That does us for another week on Synthetix, I hope you've enjoyed all the wonderful music on here this week as much as I have and I look forward to even more rockin new experiences next week!

Synthetix Weekend Update

The hot tunes just keep on rockin, making for even more thrilling synth fuelled action in this week's Weekend Update. Let's crank the volume and bring some 80s love into your weekend.

No better place to start than with the new track from Arc Neon. The Doom The Came To Sarnath is a is epic in not only name but in scope and vision. This takes the drama and escalates it into a frenzy of blazing guitars and undulating synths. Even at this Demo stage it's performing beautifully.

Maestro Mitch Murder granted us a killer new track this week and is giving it away for free! "Operator" is a smooth and sparkling synthscapade channelling a little bit of Mann Parrish and blending it with the always gorgeous Mitch Murder magic.

On a decidely Harold Faltermeyer bent we find the new Matt Creamer improvised piece: Fraser Valley Cop III. The funk is flowing like quicksilver in this early preview and the solos just keep rockin more and more as the track evolves.

Taking to the streets and putting the pedal to the metal is the powerhouse new track from Betamaxx called GT California. Right from the opening you know you're in for a lots of fun as the speedy pace gets layered with fierce guitars and menacing bassline. The Ferris Bueller samples are the icing on the cake. Quality track.

A couple of excellent short teasers surfaced this week, the first of which is a killer new track from Lost Years, which is the first chapter of a new EP to be released soon through Rosso Corsa Records. The Lost Years sounds are strong and potent throughout, that's for sure.

Another snippet from an upcoming Photosynthesi track grabbed my attention this week. "Once Again" may only be thirty seven seconds long, but promises unfathomable amounts of 80s beauty. Here's looking forward to the development of this one.

A great remix of Kristine's Modern Love by the masterful Power Glove was shared by TUFFEM UP! Records this week. It takes Kristine's sounds into very dark and frightening dimensions, giving the ambience a much more volatile air. Spine tingling brilliance, right in time for Halloween.

Synthaesthete has been quiet for the last month or so, but his return track ironically titled Leaving certainly goes to show he's still got the 80s love and is rocking it hard. Sweet melodies are hypnotizing while the production makes excellent use of slow fades. Currently available for free download too.

Synh Romance genius LA Dreams is back to releasing multiple tracks per week again. Along with the excellent Falling Close Behind and Beach Rio tracks released this week there was also the truly magical Ally's Fire. This is a sumptuous experience of smooth synths and even smooth 80s sax. The combination of sounds is, once again, a truly authentic 80s experience.

Evanton really grabbed my attention with his perfectly titled track Funky Times the other week and his new track Butterfly continues to keep me tuned in. A smooth, almost jazzy funk piece that lets the synths do all the sweet talking. Antoher gem from this producer indeed.

To finish off this Weekend Update I wanted to share an exceptional piece from Jowie Schulner, aptly titled Time To Say Goodbye. This track is completely astounding in tone and delivery, channeling unfathomably deep emotion. An exceptional experience, and the perfect way to end a big week in the 80s inspired synth scene.

Keep your internet set tuned into Synthetix for more rad times and tubular sounds next week!
