Synthetix Weekend Update

As we moonwalk through October the new releases are coming thick and fast. Over the next couple of weeks there are some massive new release coming from many of the scenes more established producers so make sure you keep on rockin by Synthetix to keep up with all the hot 80s inspired synth action!

So let's start off with a preview from one of these upcoming blockbusters. Alpha Boy's got a hot new sound and a hot new album with Streets Are Hot. The compilation preview track has lots of signature Alpha Boy sounds, but theres a new personality hinted at through much of the previews. Due out next week I'll be sure to give it the full Synthetix treatment.

Brand new music from NeonFlashDrive up next! This producer's sound is gaining more personality with each release and his new soundtrack styled piece called Akira is full of 80s magic. The darker sounds of this piece are black as pitch, while the small eastern flourishes and spatial details engage the listener even more. Akira is also up for FREE download, so get on it asap!

Our next track was, unfortunately, from an unfinished project, but Grooveworthy has shared this awesome track out on soundcloud regardless. This homage to the high action theme track is a work of brilliance as it thunders through in a magically 80s way. Lets hope more music of this style comes out from this producer as this piece is definitely rockworthy.

Synth mastercraftsman Mitch Murder unleashed a scintillating new experience this week called Rush. This is the perfect title for this track as it is a fiery ball of energy that is being propelled at the speed of sound. The mood breakdown in the middle just goes further to prove this artists skill at arranging elements to perfection. Magnificent work once again.

A brand new act on the scene is Only You and their first song Secrets grabbed my attention this week and has never let go. This is a beautiful piece of emotive synth pop with a vibe that reminds me of many early 80s bands, but also combines a more mid 80s style vocal track. This combination is supremely rocking and is hopefuly a precursor to more music from Only You in the future.

Arc Neon's new track is settling into it's final diabolical transformation and is leaving only brutality in it's wake! At The Highways Of Madness is turbocharged darkness with a super hooky lead synth melody that will drive you over the edge. I think this will sound absolutely monstrous once mixed.

It just wouldn't feel like a Weekend Update without a new LA Dreams track. This producer's still releasing new tracks with ravenous fervour and it's getting hard to keep up! Victims was definitely my favourite piece of his released this week. It's got a lovely spatial quality that is uncomplex but supremely emotive. The flow is totally entrancing. LA Dreams has a new EP out soon, so I'll make sure Synthetix covers it upon it's release.

To finish of this week's Weekend Update we have a totally rockin video production from none other than Neros77 for Quasar's Shocking Facts. This is massively entertaining and proves to be the perfect video for The Robocop inspired track.

I hope this Weekend Update on Synthetix has kept your weekend rockin the 80s love and I look forward to sharing more with you over the coming week.

The Neon Flash Drive Through The Dark City

I'm always very interested about where producers draw their inspiration from with 80s synth music. There's such a massive variety of music, film, art, design and other forms that can spark the creative process from  that I'm always reminded just how truly epic this decade was on every level.

NeonFlashDrive's latest work is an atmospherically dark synth piece which draw inspiration from one of the seminal anime features from the mid 80s: Wicked City. Dark City channels that dystopian future of Neo Tokyo and creates a soundscape thats both reflective and reactive to the source material perfectly.

The opening is full dark terror and drama, our surrounds more dangerous than we could possibly comprehend. The supernatural threat of diabolical consequences comes crashing around us in a driving melody of white knuckle excitement. Hurtling through the neon lit skyscrapers and darkened streets our adventure careens in an uncontrolable tailspin into the city's depths; reaching the final realisation that the Dark City has taken us, once and for all in a vicelike death grip from which there is no return.

NeonFlashDrive's adventure into terror is a wonderful escapade into the dark side of 80s synth music, adding another atmosphere to the field of his work. I hope he makes more music like this at it lends itself so well to multiple tracks in a concept-styled format. As always make sure you give NeonFlashDrive lots of appreciation on his soundcloud here and Facebook page here.

Synthetix Weekend Update

It's a cold and wet weekend here in Australia, but I hope this week's Weekend Update brings some warm neon glow and sparkling light to wherever you are on planet Earth.

Kenji Run! has published a beautifully emotive piece of 80s synth passion entitled Together Until I Die. This demo version already feels super polished and allows the highly emotive melodies to shine. Excellent atmosphere and execution.

Another demo track surfaced this week from one of the scene's most prolific producers 80s Stallone. Radioactive feels like a more introspective piece, uncomplicated but still highly entertaining. The basslines are really something special in Radioactive, very entrancing.

Something a bit different now from Alloapm. This song called Face To Face To Phaze caught my attention and has something about that I find very delightful. Although not a strictly 80s synth song, it has copious amounts of 80s soul burning within. The vocal track is incredible too, one of the best I've of this style since M83's classic 0078h.

NeonFlashDrive has released an awesome cover of the theme song to the 80s inspired video game classic GTA Vice City. His reworking of this conjures many wonderful memories playing this game. His new original track Dark City will be featured on the blog next week.

80s synth scene legend Lost Years furnished us with yet another opus of musical adventure with Beneath The Surface. I think Lost Years recent foray into more Italo sounds has left a wonderful mark, or lets say beauty spot, on his sounds. This track is a total work of art in combining melodies and sounds. Incredible.

Cut Slack shared a phenmonal preview to their new work this week and it's a disco powered synth funk adventure. I'm assuming this will be a full album release from this group and I hope it's going to be out soon. Solid gold rockin action.

Lastly this week we have a short teaser video for a new release from Garth Knight. I've been an ardent fan of this producers work and the promise of a new release is always very exciting. As always, I'll cover this on Synthetix as soon as it's out.

That does us for another Weekend Update on Synthetix, I hope you enjoyed the music on offer this week and I look forward to sharing more 80s inspired magic with you next week.

Synthetix Weekend Update

It's Weekend Update time once again on Synthetix, so let's get a rockin' and a rollin' into some of this past week's highlights.

First of we've got a magnificent new demo from 80s Stallone. Entitled Expectations this yet another shining example of this artists skillful work. The man has a gift for creating perfect, catchy synth melodies and Expectations, even in this demo form, sounds like it's going to be another instant-classic from this producer.

NeonFlashDrive keeps going from strength to strength with his music and he's refining his sound with each new release. Teenage Dream has a gorgeous (what I'd call) 80s euro-synth melody over the top of a brightly coloured main melody, giving both a beauitufl contrast. Beautiful music.

One of my favourite 80s inspired acts that always leave me wanting more is Jupiter Gang. Their brand of 80s electro funk synth is totally entrancing and always pack with catchy hooks. This new track is even more glittering funk gold. I'm really hoping an album or EP surfaces from Jupiter Gang soon.

Lost Years has been channelling Jan Hammer from the sounds of his latest teaser: The Harbour Heist. This is pure action drama soundtrack synth work from one of the modern masters. In just under a minute Lost Years puts you in a time and place perfectly. I'm hoping this develops into a six or seven minute epic.

I was originally planning on covering the demo of Vector Hold's Tough Turf in this Weekend Update but this producer has finalised this track in the meantime, which gives me even greater pleasure. A sterling example of refined melodies and laser guided arrangements with pin point accuracy. This is next-level work from Vector Hold and raises the bar very high for his future efforts.

Our last stop on this week's Weekend Update is a tantalising teaser for a new project from Mitch Murder. I'll let you make your own interpretations for what this cryptic message means, but I know one thing that's guaranteed with any new Mitch Murder release: 1000% excitement!

Next week on Synthetix I'll be covering some exciting news from Aphasia Records and Telefuture Records as well as the stupendous new song from Patrick Baker along with even more synth-scapades in 80s inspired synth scene.

The Monster Within NeonFlashDrive

There's something sweet and delicate about the new NeonFlashDrive track. Entitled The Monster Within Me this piece of purely poetic synth work is bright and joyous, but there is a fragility to it that seesm to be hiding something just behind the thinly veiled facade.

The main melody wends it's way throughout the music like fireflies on a dark warm night. Inviting, entrancing and enticing. Leading us into the darkness and leaving our comfort zones as the darkness closes in. The compostion is adventurous and playful but behind the neon synth glow is the lurking of something far more malificent. Repeated listenings make for a hypnotising experience that brings out all of the compositions beautifully crafted details.

This is another feather in NeonFlashDrive's cap, and adds a great deal of dimension and emotion to his previous forays into the genre. And as a bonus it's available for free download! Make sure you give him lots of love on soundcloud here and Facebook here.

Synthetix Weekend Update

This past week has seen a monstrous amount of great new releases in the scene that have made this weekend's update even more jam packed! I hope you enjoy this bumper crop of 80s inspired synth music from some of the world's most talented composers of the genre.

Let's kick off with a powerful new track from Starforce. Dreamfuse is the perfect title for this piece; the intro almost metaphysical in it's dreamlike haze. The music continues to build perfectly and eventually plateaus across the tops of the clouds into a bright, sundrenched sky. This is a very impressive next-level-step in Starforce's sound.

We land back on the city streets with Fanateek One's new electro funk masterpiece Weird 1986. I love the production on this due to it's completely smooth sounds. Thus music is like glass. Totally uncomplicated but still rivetting. Laid back, yet full of passion. Fanateek One's jammin on the one out the ying yang with this chart topper.

Synthetix stalwart Lost Years is back in action with a new work entitled Escape. I've loved everything Lost Years has ever released to bits, but this lasted release is one of his all time best. Even in this short teaser the breadth of the sounds used and how totally dynamic it all works together is magnficent. The full length cut of this can't arrive soon enough.

Something I'm surprised doesn't happen more often in the 80s inspired synth scene is theming tracks based on movies and using dialogue samples from it to complement the music. NeonFlashDrive has done just this in his Colonial Marines compositon. A synth soundtrack channelling quite a bit of John Carpenter, but using a myriad of classic samples from the movie Aliens. This works together perfectly and I hope this kind of thing gets made more of in the future.

As we leave the confines of LV-426 lets hit some of the clubs in nearby galaxies on the way home. Sure to be playing is the new anthem Moonshine from Final DJ's. Tauted as their summer jam for 2012 I can't help but be carried away by the beautifully crafted melodies. Yet another great Final DJ's release that channels so many classic vintage sounds.

Keeping the energy up we'll next pay a visit to Patrick Baker. This producer 'gets' the 80s like he should and in a new demo enitled Slip Away he works a great vocal in to the perfect 80s synth pop sound. Lovingly made layers of of sounds complement eachother perfectly, reaching a vibrant climax with the shredding guitar solo towards the end. A text book example of how to do the 80s right in 2012. Totally rockin.

Lets wind down next with some new Dynatron. Jeppe has set a course for pure thrills and drama in his brand new Aurora Nights track. Over a glorious eight and half minutes the music is a space ride of cosmic synths and galactic melodies. The production works perfectly in creating the vastness of space and keep an infinite horizon directly in our line of sight. Stellar work in every respect.

Last, but certainly not least for the week's Weekend Update is a new album teaser from prolific French producer Perturbator. Not inclined to resting his laurels after his superb Night Driving Avenger EP (covered on Synthetix here) he's now released a sampler for his first full lenght album Terror 404. As expected these snippets tease a dark and action packed release of 80s inspired synth music. It's going to be a wild ride, I'm sure, and I can't wait to buckle up and get ready for lift off when this hits. Stay tuned to Synthetix for more details and dates about Terror 404 as they happen.

That does it for this week's Weekend Update. Next week I will be on vacation, so updates may be more sporadic, but posts will be back to normal come next weekend. Till then keep the 80s dream alive and keep on rockin!
